^ wow, those guy seem pretty mad. I don't think we particularly have many people like that in Britain. Or at least I haven't seen any. I don't blame you for using excuses to duck away form them.

We do get lots of documentaries about an American group called "God hates fags", I don't know how prevalent they actually are over there. But they have quite a lot of TV shows made about them here because it is something we wouldn't usually get over here and something we would find controversial, so it pulls in the viewers. Anyway, those guys seem like intolerable assholes too.

Huh.  Never heard of them.

Probably seen pictures of them protesting.

The scary thing about that Larouche guy is it's not local.  Like Rubang had to deal with the same people.

I'd say their media attention is fairly well earned, since it is not merely their extreme and absurd beliefs (It goes beyond fundamental. According to Pastor Phelbs, on Judgement day, God will try the world with the Westborough Baptist Church as the jury. And since Phelbs has stated that everyone not with his church is evil, The whole world minus about 30 people are going to hell.) but their actions. Protesting the funerals of gays who were beaten to death with signs that say "he will burn in hell forever" or protesting the funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq with signs that say "Thank God for I.E.D's" is gonna earn you some well deserved news reports.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Annoying people , really.

Ok, here it is, I want to know what you guys think. I don't want this thread to be a bashing of religion, just what you think about people preaching on the street.

I live in a fairly large city (1 million people, with about an extra 2 million or so in surrounding areas), so the city center is always fairly busy. On the main street you often can't walk down without seeing a preacher or two trying to convert people to some religion because of this. Usually I just ignore them and walk past, or if one approaches me I say no thankyou and continue walking.

But today I was walking down the street with my friend, when I get a phone call. So we both stop at the side of the street and I answer the phone, it was a pretty important call. All of a sudden a preacher approaches us. He asks my friend if he believes in god. My friend (rather politely btw) says no. The preacher reacted very badly, he started yelling how "the king is coming" and how "Sinners like us will have nothing to show for our lives and we will go to hell". I had to end the call abruptly because this guy is hassling my friend. Then me and my friend walked away quite quickly. I was shocked at how badly this man reacted.

This is the second time I've felt fairly harassed walking down the same street. The first time was about 4 years ago when I was a little younger and hadn't learned to deal with it. A Krishna (I think) came up to me and shoved incense sticks in my hand (as a gift!) and asked for a donation. I gave him a few pence, and he told me that it didn't even cover the cost of the sticks and asked for more. I told him I wasn't buying them, he gave them to me. In the end I gave him a pound to make him happy.

I know this happens rarely (I mean it's only happened to me twice in four years), but it is really quite worrying. Don't get me wrong, I think most are harmless, they stand in one place, read verses and you can just ignore them as you walk past if you want. But sometimes it can get a little odd like this. What do you think?

I view them as entertainment, nothing more. If you take them seriously, they win.

The best was one time when I saw a street preacher screaming at Darth Vader outside the Kodak theatre in Hollywood, telling him that he's going to hell.

I nearly pissed myself laughing. The irony of the situation was too much to bear. One of the epic moments of my life.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

what if they could actually tell you something worthwhile.

Most of them are idiots.

A bunch of mormons asked if I believed in God and I said no. And they asked if I'm a scientific kind of person and I said yes. Then they said that they would show me scientifically that God Exists by getting me to pray and have him speak to me. Which obviously isn't a repeatable and measurable experiment and thus isn't science.

I believe you're wrong here... not that I think the mormon's were speaking the truth, but

You can objectively perform the 'experiment' put in front of you and measure the results.

these people are so anooying,in fact i dislike naybody who tries to impose their religon upon someone else

There's a difference between 'imposing' and trying to share what you've learnt with the world because you sincerely believe it's for their benefit.

EVERYONE here is just hating on these people, but I've actually been a beggar on the street and I can tell you that it requires much more determination and tolerance than almost any occupation.

Ha, I have a good story to add here. A few weeks back a couple girls came to the door trying to sell their religion (whatever it was I don't know). Anyways, they were younger Asian girls. Before they could start their second sentence, I blurted out "Oh perfect timing! You must be the Asian prostitutes I ordered! Come on in, Let's get started!." Well needless to say they left pretty quick. It was without a doubt, one of my finest moments.
