And I don't think I have to prove Kimi's better driver than Button, everyone knows that. Damn, just look at the seasons they both won, Kimi won a championship with a car that was clearly inferior to the McL during all the season, and he still managed to beat both of them, Button won the season by carrying the success of the first seven races, where his car was leagues ahead of all the others, and when the playing field leveled he never won a race again |
unfair comparison much?
Button was lucky enough that Brawn had the best car for much of the season, he's a good driver and took the chance to get the points, the only way you could compare would be if Button was in a car that was a close 2nd best and won or didnt win the WDC with it, the Brawn car was far off the pace for several races, not level, but behind the Red Bull and/or Ferrari/McLaren. Name me one driver who won the WDC in the last 10 years who wasnt in the best or one of the best car's.
another thing to note, Button has only been in a compettetive top car for 1 season, he won the WDC, Kimi has spent most of his career in a top car and only has 1 WDC, if were doing blind comparisons that ignore half the factors, then lets mention this too, huh?
Button has also proved he is a good driver in the past, in 2004, he came 3rd behind the Ferrari's with more the double his team mates points tally in a car that wasnt great, in 2005 and 2006 he outclassed easily the more experienced and more highly rated Barrichello in a mid grid car..
Like I said, I rate Kimi as a driver too, but to claim Button is inferior and imply that it's a significant gulf in ability isnt fair at all, Kimi may well be better, but its not a huge gap at all, certainly not a £17m per year gap, thats my point and thats why McLaren are probably looking more seriously at signing Button
