Forums - Microsoft - Anyone notice that.....

The Xbox 360 has already, with 10 weeks of holiday left, the Xbox 360 has already outsold last year's entire software sales in the US and Japan??

 2006 USA:

23,215,018

 2007 USA:

25,983,596

2006 Japan:

750,996

2007 Japan:

797,860

It was just something I noticed that no one talked about. Yes, Halo made a huge difference in the sales, but with tons of software still for sale, the X360 could have quite a bit more s/w to sell. I never ever thought about checking the numbers, but their there.

Anyone else care to comment? It seems like the X360 *could* wind up increasing total S/W sales in both regions by 50-60% by the EOY.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

How more X360's sold how more it is possible that they sell more software isn't it?

Sounds very normal to me :s.

Almost 3m in the US and almost 50k in Japan... So going backwards by subtracting weekly sales, what week did 2007 software sales pass 2006 in both US and Japan?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I guess the US sales passed the 2006 sales when Halo 3 was released on the market.

You should compare them with this:

Global Software Sales 2007, up until September 30th (and lifetime totals)

Nintendo DS - 105,250,000 | 259,480,000
PlayStation 2 - 104,200,000 | 1,309,100,000
Wii - 48,300,000 | 65,810,000
PlayStation Portable - 33,600,000 | 123,900,000
PlayStation 3 - 23,100,000 | 28,400,000
Game Boy Advance - 10,130,000 | 372,630,000

How does one get an overall amount of software sold to date?

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

I don't get it...why are the PSP software sales so darn low?

Downloading the games perhaps?
