Forums - Microsoft - Will XBOX720 go PS3?

http://www.nextgn.com/2009/11/14/xbox-360-left-4-dead-2-leaked-to-torrent-sites/

Left4Dead 2 360 is now available for download, a week before release. Not a big deal itself. But i noticed in the Related Stories that alot of heavy hitters have also suffered the same fate.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Leaked to Torrent Sites Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been leaked...
  • Halo 3: ODST Leaked to Torrent Sites Halo 3: ODST has been leaked and is already...
  • Brutal Legend and Forza Motorsport 3 Leaked to Torrent Sites Brutal Legend and Forza Motorsport 3 has been leaked...
  • Resident Evil 5 Leaked The Xbox 360 version of Resident Evil 5 has...
  • Halo Wars Leaked – Losing The War To Pirates
  • ODST, Forza 3, RE5, Halo Wars and MW2 (nothing bad about Brutal Legend, but its not quite in the same league), all have been leaked prior to the release on the 360. All very big titles this year. Even though titles still sell well on the console, do you think that the NextBox will turn its back on the easy development (360/PC structure), and move towards a more PS3 type style? (Hard to develop for by choice) Now that the PS3 have proven itself to stay bullet proof 3 years into its lifecycle, and with good games in its arsenal despite the hassle of development, wouldn't it be a natural way to go to fight piracy even further heading into the next generation?

    Thoughts?

EDIT: I just found this aswell.

    http://www.vgarabia.com/2009/11/14/assassins-creed-2-xbox-360-version-leaked/

"We are getting used to the fact that pirates do play most of the games (if not all) before their official release dates. Today, it seems that Ubisoft upcoming action-adventure is the newest victim. The prove to this is the video below, which contains the first 9:18 minutes of the game. I don’t recommend to anyone who is planning to get the game to watch this, as it contains a lot of spoilers. You have been warned.

    Update:

It seems that Youtube is removing any leaked videos related to Assassin’s Creed 2. While we don’t encourage pirating games, the game is available on numerous torrent sites. I have to mention this in order to prove that the game is actually leaked."

Now the 360 version of Assassins Creed 2 is out before official release. Speaking of the devil.

And let me refrase my question, since i obviously have it all wrong, tech wise. Will the 720 do whatever it is the PS3 does today to prevent Piracy? And what exactly is it that makes the PS3 unhacked still?

Its not how difficult it is to develop games for a console that dictates how bad piracy is. It is how easy it is to replicate the media.
ie DVD-DL writers are in virtually every desktop while Blu-ray writers are in virtually none.

I would expect the Nextbox to either be Blu-ray or entirely DL.

Everything is going to be leaked given time. I'd rather own the legit copy, so this all really doesn't matter to me. The only way leaked copies could hurt me is if mass amounts of people downloaded from a certain company, thus forcing companies not to make games anymore. Has that happened to me? No.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

ps3 isn't difficult for the sake of being difficult. The payoffs can be incredible. They haven't nearly touched the ceiling of what ps3 is capable of. Even ff13 is only like 70% or something like that.

But, to answer your point, no. The whole point of the 360 is to make the console and the PC more attractive to consumers. If they make it too difficult, it will be harder to put games on the PC, and thereby cost more in the long run, both in dev costs and brand strength.

Piracy on the 360 has nothing to do with the ease of development. Conversely, lack of piracy on the PS3 has nothing to do with the difficulty of development. The only part of the 360 that has been hacked is the DVD firmware, which has nothing to do with the overall architecture. I'm sure Microsoft will take this very seriously next generation, and do everything in their power to keep the system secure - but mimicking Sony's architecture wouldn't help.

Well the current plan seems to be banning xbox live accounts, which for online oriented games might prove just as effective.

yeah, like blizzid said, the difference is in disc formats, not difficulty.

My previous response was responding to your post as if it was a veritable argument.

Most 360/PC games are made for the PC and ported to the 360. Like Left 4 Dead. And like 100% of games are made using PCs.

sigh, yes but if you notice, most 360 games are also on pc, but that is not the case with ps3 or nintendo.
