I'm about to play Final Fantasy XII and I'm really not so good at RPG's like finding little secrets and stuff. Does it ruin the experience or does it help you out?

That fustrates the hell out of me! Just playing the game and don't know where to go. It gets boring for me really fast.
I try not to use them, but there is occaisons where I get lost, or just don't quite understand what the game wants me to do and so I end up going over to gamefaqs to get some help

I go there or 1up.com, I get lost alot....its annoying as hell.
Used them when I was younger. Then I went to just using them when I needed help. Now I dont use them anymore.

Well to be honest....RPG's wasn't my favorite genre to begin with. I would play it for 2 hours and shut the game off. And won't touch that RPG in month's. Its just I prefer RPG's that grabs my attention. Kingdom Hearts was a game where I didn't need a strategy guide. It was normal and I even beaten it on Proud Mode. So I prefer games like that. Final Fantasy X or XII I really prefer a strategy guide. So I'm going to try the game out with it. I don't look to far down the strategy guide to see what happens. But I use it because I know I will get lost or stuck somewhere.
I go to Gamefaqs and 1up.com or sometimes even IGN.com
Not for me personally. But then I'm a person who can be told the entire plot of a book and still read it through about 5 times in a row without getting bored.

I check it out too if I'm stuck and absolutely have no idea where to look next. But other than that I'll go check it out after I finished the game. Just to look for the last hidden stuff in the game. To see if I didn't miss something you know. Strategy guides can spoil a game though. Especially boss battles and other storyline spoilers. Strategy guides for RPG's is the worst kind. It spoils alot of the experience. The whole reason puzzle solving is great is because you solve it yourself.
Edit: Use the guide as a tool like u can use a dictionary for puzzles. But don't base your game around the guide. That's no fun.

Play once without any guide/help to savor the game itself and enjoy all the surprises, plot twists, and the like.
Play again to collect all the fun stuff, do all the sidequests...etc.
Generally works out really well.
