i38: Reason unable to play in MW2 tournament

Posted by Camiel jetset Rietbergen on 2009-11-13 21:57:26

After Epsilon Esports was unable to enter the tournament due to age restrictions and m.atec being removed from the tournament for that very reason, the Multiplay i38 Modern Warfare 2 tournament has just lost one of the main contenders for the title: Reason Gaming.

The British based team, consisting of Chris "Lighters" Lightburn, Tim "revoltz" Denton, Tom "D1ablo" Newman, Danny "SoCLoN" Perez O'Connor and Ryan "dUffER" Duffy, went into the tournament as the third seeded team but were unable to play their groupgames due to serious pc problems, p2p connection issues and being unable to find their opponent in the steam group.

Tim "revoltz" Denton had the following to say:

"We had PC problems for the whole afternoon, as a result our games were only working 5-10 minutes before the match. We couldn't find our opponents on the steam group (no tags) and two players had issues connecting p2p on the network. As a result we lost by default. I'm not happy!!""

38: Prize purse set at £1,000

The prize purse for the Modern Warfare 2 tournament has finally been announced and is set at a disappointing £1,000. With so many speculations over the weekend and prize purses ranging from anything between £5,000 and nothing, Multiplay have finally announced the prize purse for the Modern Warfare 2 tournament and set the amount at a mere £1,000. Although already expected to be this low by nearly all participants, it is still a ridiculously low amount for what was announced as "the most anticipated game of the year" and " the first ever Modern Warfare 2 tournament in the world with support from Activision.

How those £1,000 will be divided remains to be seen but it has also been confirmed that due to contractual obligations Multiplay are unable to offer a prize purse for a Call of Duty 4 competition to be run alongside the Modern Warfare tournament.

By contract set by activision, they screwed over the COD4 community, to be able to host a MW2 tournament. Nice move!
