haven't got CoD4... but for FPS in general I like to have a sniper and a shotgun combo, or a sniper and powerful handgunof some sort.

My fav COD4 gun is M16A14 with red tiger camo and red dot sight and perks stopping power, marathon, and steady aim.

In MW2 I'm pwning everyone with the UMP or whatever, the submachine gun with red tiger camo, red dot sight, stopping power pro, steady aim pro and marathon.
