Final Fantasy XI Now on Steam!

The Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Collection is now available through Steam, an online gaming community and game distribution site. Steam is known for distributing popular titles such as the Half-Life series and Left 4 Dead, as well as several MMORPGs such as Aion and Champions Online.

Steam could put Final Fantasy XI in front of thousands of new potential players. The service touts a huge user base, handling more than 1.8 million connections during peak two-day periods. People who are registered with Steam can purchase many of their favorite games online and download them straight to their computers for immediate gameplay. Steam also offers a friend list interface and instant messaging options.

The Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Edition, which is scheduled for release Thursday, includes the Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess expansions. It also includes the three add-on scenarios A Crystalline Prophecy - Ode of Life Bestowing, Moogle Kupo d’Etat - Evil in Small Doses and A Shantotto Ascension - The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born.

I would buy it if I still played it but WoW > FFXI.

You can only do half the stuff on WoW that FFXI has to offer, like job customization. You have to make another character on WoW just to be a different class, but on FFXI you can use the same weapons and gear on different jobs and only on ONE character. You played FFXI, so you should know that. The only reason people play WoW because it's a cheesy cartoonish 'MMORPG' (if you can classify that) and it will be lightyears behind Final Fantasy once FFXIV comes out.

Being cheesy is part of WoW's appeal, which I love. The community is amazing. It's easy to learn and difficult to master and it's a lot more complex than you might think.

I have played a lot of MMOs in the past, including: Runescape, Guild Wars, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, EVE Online and FF XI. But WoW is simply my favorite.

I highly doubt it will be behind FFXIV, especially with Cataclysm coming out. Blizzard are industry leaders when it comes to MMORPGs and they have no equal.

I... just can't get into monthly subscription games.

Love MMOs but i just hate the thought of pay as you play gaming.
