Because it's older. Why did you ask this?
Soul Cal has always been more fun than tekken.
Street Fighter 4 rapes them both tho.
How many advertisements a game gets has nothing to do with how trends have shifted. It's a close call which is more popular. SCII and Tekken 5 we're pretty close in sales, and SCIV has the edge right now (of course it's been out much longer) I think in terms of sales they will be pretty close, but I do also think SC has surpassed Tekken in overall gameplay.
@disolitude: And yeah well Street Fighter is more popular then any fighting franchise.

Wow wait what?! SC is more popular then tekken!? no way... im see'n way more Tekken 6 Advertisements then i did SoulCalibur IV ones, i love soulcalibur more overall since SC2 but only now i like tekken because of 6 because they have more original characters and new ones overall for this game VS SCIV's only new character hild'Gard. |
Ummmm...sales don't lie. The more popular a game is, the more it sells. Tekken 6 is currently behind on 360 by a lot for the same timeframe, and on the PS3 it's dead even. If it ends up having better legs, then more power to it, but considering this is a long running series and hasn't made any changes to attract a new audience, you'd expect fans to show up earlier rather than later. I would expect Tekken 6 to fall below Soulcalibur IV overall. What other measure of popularity is there? You think Tekken is more popular because this website is advertising for it? Ok. Dragon Age is more popular than Pokemon because I see more advertisments for it.

Hard to believe it was neck and neck with Mortal Kombat at one point. MK2 possibly could have been a more popular game of the two at the time... Man how midway dropped the ball.
Yeah, Street Fighter really started it all though and has remained relevant for so long it's hard to argue that any fighter franchise could match it in terms of popularity. Mortal Kombat just isn't really relevant anymore and hasn't been for several years.
Any really in general fighting games just aren't as popular as they once were, you look at some of the sales figures from the mid-late 90s compared to the last few years and its just not even close.

Ah i see, nice overall estimation. hard to belive though cause i remember back int he SCII days, all my friends made fun of me because i liked SCII over Tekken 5 and Guilty Gear.
So this is the first gen SoulCalibur Series > Tekken Series eh? its about time, as for the gameplay, in tekken 6 it seems so plain to me, not much effort to it, unless you want to master combo air juggles but meh that takes to much time.
Im'a make a SCIV vs Tekken 6 thread later because of this info now. see what VGChartz likes the most.

SCII sold more then Tekken 4, and was just a little behind Tekken 5. So really they have been close for awhile now.

This!
Plus, SoulCalibur (DC) >>>>>>>>>>>> Tekken series
