Forums - PC - Intel to pay $1.25 billion legal settlement to AMD

If this helps AMD start making great processors again, maybe my next pc will be amd.

Heresy!!! AMD does make great processors!

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

they do make great processors. I'm sorry I said that.
I meant that Intel has been making much greater processors, at a cheaper price.

This would have happened anyway. If AMD went under, Intel would be a monopoly and Im glad we didnt have to see the shitstorm that would have caused (atleast here in the US). No way Intel would let AMD go down, they just didnt want to admit to wrong doing.

The Phenom IIs are great CPUs, there's no doubt about that, but they just can't compete with the high-end i7s.

Granted, those same i7s are costing double to five times as much as said Phenom IIs, so that might not be of too much concern to AMD either.

What part of AMD's lineup isn't price competitive at the moment? Even the 965 BE beats its price competitor the i5 750 at games (and loses in general applications).

^Huh, I was not aware of that processor being so good. Is that a recent release? It's pretty sweet. At least a 50$ value over the next best thing.

Still, that value is only really seen on this processor. Everything below is comparatively priced, and in most cases intel performs better.

Intel isn't really cheaper than AMD right now, I'm actually just about ready to switch back to AMD after several years with Intel.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

amd has to be liking that day :O

It was originally released at the start of August, however, they just recently released a revised version with lower TDP.

Also, with AMD, motherboards are generally cheaper - and, if you're really wanting to save money, you have the option of using older, cheaper DDR2 memory as opposed to more expensive DDR3.
