Forums - PC - Why can't I find the ATI Radion 5870?

I saw it in a shop today. They look pretty sexy TBH.

Tease.

How much do they go for ?

$379 MSRP.

Around $390-400 right now, but that's if you can find one. Supply should be restored in a few weeks though, it should be back to MSRP then.

I'll stick with my 4850 until I see that game that seriously pushes the hardware. Starcarft 2 perhaps ?

That's not going to. The graphics in the SC2 videos look functional, not cutting-edge, and could be done on current consoles. Look at what kind of cards support WoW.

No game will push current hardware until after the release of the next consoles. Even then, few games will due to the insane budget required and the very small percentage of gamers who own a PC that good.

The advantage of the 5870 will be i) Multiple displays (Eyefinity), and ii) GPU compute, whenever devleopers get around to using it properly without Nvidia subsidies first.

Blizzard games NEVER push hardware.  It is contrary to their design philosophy.

Ati sucks anyway,get a gtx285 or better yet a gtx295

Yeah I'm not actually looking forward that much for SC2 (more of a Warcraft guy) and from what I've seen from the battle reports I think my rig can handle it with ease. I just mentioned it because it's the only big PC game from the top of my head.

Still, ATI GPU's are much faster than NVIDIA GPU's nowadays. Both gtx285 and gtx295 are slower than 5870. Then again, I only care about performance/price ratio, I don't care about manufacturer.

The 5870 destroys the GTX 285 in every regard, and even trades blows with the more expensive, much hotter, much more power-consuming GTX 295, which has two GPUs as well, to the 5870's one.

And moreover, NVIDIA doesn't have DX11 at all, or anything comparable to Eyefinity either.
