Forums - Microsoft - In light of MW2, what can Halo Reach do?

I doubt that halo:reach will outsell halo 3 for the first week.

Why shouldn't it? The only reason imo that MW2 outsold Halo 3 in day one because the 360 install base is twice as big now as it was when Halo 3 came. Halo Reach will the biggest single platfrom launch in history and probably the most sold 360 game at the end of this generation.

Oh yeah Halo Reach will beat MW2 sales in both debut and lifetime on 360. I expect Reach to do 7-10 million day one. Lifetime = 16-18 million.

LOL...that might be a bit of a stretch for Day 1 sales...maybe Week One at 6-7 million, imho.  I'm not sure how people are coming to the conclusion that MW is now bigger than Halo...can somebody explain it to me...and saying "Look at these week one sales..."  is a riddiculous statement...I'll point out hte attach rate of Halo 3 vs. MW 2 isn't in the favor of MW.

Attach rate at launch or LTD?

Because if you just mean generally LTD, then that's also a ridiculous statement as MW2 has been out for approaching 2 weeks now whilst Halo 3 has been out for over 2 years now...

Why would I compare LTD for MW2 to Halo 3?  I'm talking about launch week sales...Halo 3 did 3.8 million with a 11 million base...MW2 is projected to do 5.5 million with 34 million.  Not only that...all this talk about Halo being bypass are unfounded...why is Halo 3 still selling so many copies...when it's NOT bundled, and why is it STILL at or near the top of the XBL boards?  I think alot of non-360 haters love to attack Halo out of envy.

Yes, I was just checking.

But I don't think Halo 3 would have sold that many more copies launching on its current install base vs. what it actually launched on. Obviously, it would have broken 4mil then for sure, but I don't think it would have managed MW2's opening. Just personal opinion; guess we'll never know.

And just for the record, I don't hate 360/Halo/Microsoft and have played all of the titles except for HW. When I say I don't think Reach can break MW2's opening, it's speculation without an agenda. The strength of ODST proves that Halo is as popular as ever.

Halo Reach will still sell pretty well despite Modern Warfare 2's huge success.

Errr...just as a point of clarification...I was comparing and speaking in terms of MW2 360 and Halo Reach...I thought it was obvious what I was saying, but I'm just clearing it up. For people to say that Halo has lost it's appeal...when Halo Wars is the best RTS on ANY console, and the numbers that Halo ODST just...that's puzzling. Not to mention the fact that Halo 3 is STILL in the top 3 for XBL play?!?! Almost nobody expected MW2 to do this...so saying Halo Reach can't...after seeing these numbers is simply crazy.

I disagree with you.

It is far too soon to predict the sales of Halo Reach... Most of the comments here comes to pure speculations to my eyes.

Most people who bought a xbox 360 at that time bought it for Halo 3..

Correct...my statement as posted is opinion, but I was talking about sales-wise, no technical, which is always debatable.

"Most people who bought a xbox 360 at that time bought it for Halo 3.."

With a 30-something% attach rate, I am not sure what's your point?  Halo 3 has one of the HIGHEST attach rate ever on any console, so are you saying it STILL has appeal or is it decreasing?

Just like to add some stuff since people obviously cant see how big of a game Halo 3 was. At the time Halo 3 came out the 360 had what, 12 million consoles? And it sold 3.8 million (thats almost 30% attach rate) Vs MW2 32 million consoles, 5.5 million units which is 17% or so. By the time Halo Reach comes out the 360 will have 40 million consoles at least maybe more. So for Halo Reach to beat Modern Warfare it only needs 14% attach rate. Add to that, the commercial push and the fact that Halo Reach will most likely score better reviews than MW:2.

Conclusion: unless MW3 or GTA5 comes out later than Halo Reach, it has a safe spot for best launch on 360.
