@SpookyXJ,

Its not your rig, its your OS sadly =/

High settings at same resolution on the exact same computer. In XP I get very playable results, in Vista I get a slide show. But that is the "Vista Tax" for you hard at work. DX10 is supposed to be more efficient which is all fine and well until you realize how incredibly poorly Vista manages resources which completely offsets any benefit...and then some. I'm glad I set vista up in dual boot, I would be clawing my eyes out right now otherwise.

Been waiting awhile to upgrade my computer... I think it may be time.

I have an old rig, but it has higher specs then the minimum and the game does not work at all, in the airplane i can see the blue light at the top and what appears to be eyes, but for me they are just 4big pixels. Once i jump out of the plane, i can just make out my teammates and the ground is just two shades of black with tiny white spots when i toss on nightvision.

Once i hit the water i cannot make out anything, the water is having massive issues, from what appears to be the GPU stabbing itself. I screwed around with the settings and tossed the res up to 1280x1024 and i can see the ground, nothing on it but i can see it. The enemies are just red outlines of the men, i cannot see my gun or anything else.

I also downloaded the UT3 and CoD4 games, i can play UT3 on 800x600 res and the game runs crazy fast, i never had fraps on but it was mpving really smooth.

I played CoD4 on 800x600 res and it looks good even on low settings, its runs between 30-90 FPS depending on what is going on. I then cranked it to the max that my card would allow, the game looks really good but it gets 1-8 FPS. I took some pics and they look about the same as some of the 8600 cards, of course they had 40-60 FPS and not 1-8.

I still have about 1 year before i upgrade my comp :(

What GPU are you using? What driver release version are you currently using?

I'm playing at a pretty medium widescreen resolution with 16qx AA and all high settings 35-45 fps.

Is very high settings just for dx10? Anyways, I have to say this game looks awesome. Especially the little details such as blurring out everything except the part your focusing on when you look down your sights. I love all the blurring when you turn around and stuff. It looks awesome.

The ai and optimization though, I have to say falls well beneath CoD4. CoD4 both looks awesome and runs awesome. AI wise, Call of duty was much better. The enemies would dive through windows to find cover, flashbangs would make them scream and flail around out of cover and stuff.  When you shoot their kneecaps out, like I always do, then they fall on the ground screaming, trying to crawl away while trying to get his last few shots in with his pistol before I deliver the finishing blow with my knife. In crysis, when you shoot someone, it's like counterstrike 1.6 all over again. They just twitch, and the first thing the allies try to do is not cover him or assist, but to set off a flare for help. Seems kinda wierd to me.

Still is a fun game though. Looks real good and the freeze ray with aliens are oodles of fun, but it isn't exactly perfect.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

I have an x700pro, its getting old :(

Downloaded and tested it out. I was amazed that it actually ran well on med settings at 1280x1024 with no AA. I haven't tweak the setting as of yet but It looks great even on my rig.

I'm not suprised at that. I got a full version of vista cheap with my processor and I'm regretting that. I'll learn about being an early adopter one of these days. I don't rember XP being this bad at launch. I took a performance hit in everything I was playing when I changed OS. Unfortunatly I cant find my XP disc or I'd go back. I was hoping things had gotten better. I updated grapics and sound drivers the week before to play HL2 Episode 2 and noticed marked improvement especially in sound.

Griffin try setting Shaders Quality to high in the advanced menu. I was having the exact same problems you are describing and that fixed it for me.

I've been reading a couple of sites and it appears that the DX10 features only work on Very High. They showed DX9 to DX10 High pics and the game looks the same.

I don't know about all the DX10 features, but some people have found out that doing some stuff to the config files can enable a couple of DX10 features in Windows XP.

Anyway, my system can just barley handle medium settings, lol. My 7800gt is probably swearing at me as I ran the game. (20-30ish fps with medium settings, no AA, 800x600)

I'm impartial about the demo. I'm very impressed that the same people who made the (in my opinion) piece of crap game called Far Cry are actually making this game. The voice acting is actually good (not the most amazing, but still MUCH better than Mr. Jack Carver) and the health regeneration (at least on Normal difficulty) offsets the fact that the save system is still based on checkpoints.

However, the AI didn't really feel that good. Perhaps part of it is that I'm on normal, but I'd be swimming right next to a boat and the gunner didn't even notice me till I swam twenty feet directly in front of his field of vision. Maybe it's just because of the demo or something, but we'll see.

Onto the graphics. . . On medium, it looked like a less flashy version of Far Cry and obviously looked like crap compared to the full graphical prowess that this game can promote.

Now, I haven't gotten all the way through the demo yet (had to stop after a little bit for class). I don't think I'd buy this game unless I had a high end 8800 or whatever else comes out in the near future and if I had that, I'd probably be required to get Vista too unless the DX10 features don't make it that much more amazing than DX9.
