Destructoid reports that EA is going through a major restructuring.

"John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, has tasked every studio and company within the monolithic publisher with getting their rising costs in line with revenue, which in plain English means layoffs."

so EA's games will go from crap to craptacular? good to know.

lol

Since this is EA I have no idea whether this is good or bad for them.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

My first reaction to reading the headline was to start chanting "please stop being crap, please stop being crap, please stop being crap".

No such luck, although hopefully they ditch the worst offenders first.

It's hard for me to fathom how EA could actually get worse than what they are now...

I remember when they used to publish cool games, like Relentless: Twinsen's Odyssey. That was a fun game.

This is no surprise ...

EA bet the car on the PSP and then followed that up by betting their house on the XBox 360 and PS3. This has left them playing catch up which is costly because the expensive projects they started before the generation began are not selling up to expectations because the userbase is not there, and the projects they started to catch up are selling poorly because they're not high quality.

I expect they are currently in a position which is still healthy but they're looking into the future and seeing the potential for disaster ...

Step 1.  Pull head out of rear.

Step 2.  Repeat Step 1 for all EA personnel.

Step 3.  Send Bioware as many bags with large green dollar signs with appropriate contents as possible.

Step 4.  ????

Step 5.  Profit!

I still think Medal of Honor is the best first person shooter series.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

In traditional corporate style the guy who doesn't say much but actually does the majority of the work that does get done will get fired and the guy with his hand down his own pants all day who is really involved in office politics..yeah he gets to stay.

Unfortunately this sounds like a bad thing to me. I would love to be wrong and maybe this will mean cutting the fat and keeping only good productive workers, but I highly doubt it.

PS - This could mean more Wii games from some studios if they don't want to lay people off. Cheaper budgets might let them get by under the radar etc...I just hope they realize that phase 2 to that plan (to borrow that south park phrase again) is BIG PROFIT!! and that only happens if they put together a good piece of software.
