Forums - Gaming - Who else loves game soundtracks? How important for game?

Recently Vgchartz made top 11-20 game soundtracks so I thought I would expand this even more.

I have...bought many game soundtracks...Metal Gear Solids,Final Fantasys,Zone of the Enders,Chrono Cross...And I just love them.

I wonder when they start to be in top 10 most buyed music downloads/cd:s.

In some games I don't mind bad sountrack..But I think Final Fantasys wouldn't been as big as it is without these great songs...And who could forget Metal Gear Solid songs?Merlyns death,ending,chase...

Here is few I enjoy:

OST's make up for most of the atmosphere of the game, especially if the game is a RPG one, it's one of it's key aspects. Nowadays you can find very good OST's on many high profile games, yet I remember the times that most OST's where pure crap and only a few select games had really good songs ;)

My favourite OST's of all time are in order:

- Final Fantasy VI
- Parasite Eve
- Grandia
- Xenogears
- Kingdom Hearts
- Metal Gear Solid
- Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (the SNES game)
- Legend of Zelda OoT

IMO OSTs are very important, that's why for me games like Folklore and Lair are under-rated.

I love a good soundtrack in the game, but can hardly listen to it normally (there are some exceptions, but few).
It's not gamebreaking for me if the game has a mediocre or even subpar soundtrack, as long as it doesn't stick out too much.
Obviously it's a plus when this too, in addition to the gameplay/story/characters can be enjoyed.

Its not as important as something like the gameplayf or story/characters (this depends on genre) but it does have a factor.

The thing about soundtrack is that, if its really bad, it makes the game unplayable. Exceptions are portable games, which I usualy play without sound. As long as its ok, I'm fine. Of course, the better it is, the more I'll like the game

Kingdom Hearts opening is one of the few songs that has come to puplic knowledge..

IMO, Game soundtracks are extremely important. Sure they're not as important as the gameplay. But it can ruin a good game or save a bad game.
BTW, what's all the fuss with Metal Gear Solid soundtracks. The only great soundtrack as a whole was the first PS1 game. The rest has a few excellent tracks but are pretty weak as a whole.

Anyway, here are a few underrated scores I enjoy.

The importance of the soundtrack depends very much on the game itself. I've always loved the soundtracks to Zelda games. SMG had a great soundtrack too. My personal fave soundtrack would be Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as I am a huge fan of 80's music - mainly because of GTA:VC.

So around 2/1000 care about game soundtrack?Sucks..
