Xbox Pirates Banned From Own Hard Disks

Remember that one fine morning a certain number of pirates were banned from Xbox Live. Apparently that wasn’t just it. The banned users are now unable to access the hard disk! Installation of games is not impossible for the banned users..

Here are the details of what the banned users are experiencing:

Firstly, and most obviously, you cannot connect to Xbox Live on this console any more. This means no more game updates (aka title updates), XBLA games, marketplace content, netflix/sky player and so on. There is no way around this, all online capabilities are now disabled PERMANENTLY.

Hard Drive installs are now disabled on the banned console. This means any disk-based games you have will no longer play off of the hard drive.

There is no way to fix this, that functionality is simply gone from the banned 360.

Windows Media Centre functionality is disabled. It is still possible to stream video/music content via the video library.

So, in summary:

Your Banned 360:

* Cannot go on Xbox Live

* Cannot install games to the HDD

* Cannot use Windows Media Centre extender

* Cannot be used to get achievements from backups without corrupting your profile

Wow that is some serious anti-piracy.

Hopefully none of you had a pirated 360.

actually they have done it to modified 360's as well (upgraded hdd's), what a slap in the face for people who midified their console to have a better hdd in.
although this will help kill off piracy, i can't but help fell that some innocent people have suffered because of this move

That's awesome! I'm so glad to hear pirates are getting fucked up.

Basically, its as good as bricked then. But for pirates that never go online, they are immune to this?

Pirates are getting HDD raped...after they tried to Wallet Rape the developers. Microsoft is very good at serving out punishment...maybe a little too good. Maybe Microsoft is actually a sub of the CIA. Watch out Pirates...Waterboarding is next.

That's about as likely as me playing by somebody elses rules, which I would never do. I only play by my own rules, nobody elses...not even my own.

Hows ms going to stop someone from buying another 360 and modding that? Plus they could get someone elses (husband, wife, friend, whatever) information to start another Live account.

Though that's still a pretty bold move. Hats off to MS.

It's just that simple.

Yeah....that's the point. They have to BUY another 360...which means more sales to Microsoft, which means more money. So by them shafting out on $60, they will now have to pay >$199 to get a new 360

That's about as likely as me playing by somebody elses rules, which I would never do. I only play by my own rules, nobody elses...not even my own.

Now this explains the offer Walmart did and the spectacular effect it had!

Yes if you are innocent and are not a pirate and have experienced this issue, please buy a ps3 you do not get banned for upgrading your hard drive!

Yet any custom firmware will auto log you off XBL and lock internet when loading a pirated ISO now so no way to get caught. The only people getting caught are idiots. They read the warnings on the how-to guides, and still try and play online, still leave their XBL online, still leave the Ethernet connected. Idiots deserve to lose their console.

The real funny thing, is any normal "pirate" is laughing this off, this does not hurt the pirates, just the idiots who know how to mount ISOs and try and play them online. Sad really, the only reason they make this public is to deter people from pirating. This will stop a very very small amount of people, around 0.2% if not less of pirates. Some pirates even go as far as to get a arcade for pirating, etc. Oh and this is funny, with custom firmware none of those features gets locked, and can be unlocked easily. Except XBL but that is run of the SIN of the console so meh.
