Forums - Sony - Whats going on with PSP's christmas line up?

Ok I want to first say that I do NOT want to start a flamewar. I'm just taking something I have noticed while working at gamestop and wanted to know if anyone could explain it. As of yesterday 10/24/07, on gamestops list of new releases for the psp for the rest of this year, there is a total of 16 titles. By comparison the DS has 62 titles coming out this year. The current PSP library is approx 323 titles so far and the DS library is approx 398, so its not like the PSP has a bigger library so it can take it easy this christmas. Now to be fair a good amount of the games that are coming out for the PSP are good games like, Manhunt 2, WWE, SOCOM, MOH Heroes 2, Elder Scrolls, etc. While the DS has good games but also a lot of crap games. But from my experiance, Sony has always been about quantity of games. Even the PS2 has a larger christmas line up. Now of course there are games coming out this year that gamestop just doesnt have listed yet, but 16 titles is not many games at all. Also, the good games coming out arent original PSP content, its all ports, WWE, MOH, Elder Scrolls, Manhunt 2, Golden Compass. It seems like that with the slim version out they would want to really push the PSP this holiday to try and jump start the PSP train and become competitive.

So, has Sony started to give up? Are they taking the PSP in the direction of more of a PS3 accessory?

I didn\'t even know there were titles coming out for the PSP.
For that matter, I can\'t think of too many big DS games coming out this holiday either.

This holiday seems very strong for the consoles, but weak(softwarewise anyway) for the handhelds.

You work at Gamestop and it took you this long to figure out the PSP had a smaller list of games this year than the DS? I guess what they say about Gamestop employee\'s just might be true...

Also, I wouldn\'t count some of the PSP games as successes just because they have a big name. A lot of big games get ported to portables and they are generally not that great.

-edit-
And I'm not trying to say that the DS has the  supiorer lineup (I actually don't know what's coming out for it in the next months), just saying it's silly to think some titles on handhelds are going to be big because they're leeching off the console counterpart.

Oh I noticed a long time ago just have been way too busy with class to post anything.
My main question is why such a weak christmas line up right after releasing a new updated psp

It's not completely Sony's call to line up the games, it's more the developers. Except for games specifically published by Sony, they have no say when a game gets released so this just means that a lot of PSP games aren't being released at the moment not that Sony has given up. Read into that what you will.
