Forums - General - Has anyone lost their interest in video games since joining this site?

I did for over a year. I think a lot of it had to do with my tendency to point out flaws I see in the industry and getting piled on by fanboy after fanboy.

I went through a few of my old editorials and it was comical... In one, I was called a MS fanboy about 20 times. Two weeks later, I had suddenly become a Sony/MS fanboy according to several other people. A month later, I was a frothing Nintendo fanboy because I said something positive about them and negative about Sony/MS. Repeat ad nauseum...

There is something about video games that I really despise and that is the tendency of people to choose a cold piece of hardware and dedicate all their free time to making sure no one else in the world says anything bad about it, as if they have some financial or emotional stake in said silicon beyond the $200 they spent on the stupid thing. Combine that with video games' prediliction for juvenile storylines, repetitive themes, and general uninspired play and frankly, I burned out.

Of all things, it took me Beatles Rock Band to remember that games can be fun. Then I thought about Portal again, played a little more Psychonauts, and remembered why I started playing in the first place. Even if I am back at VGC, it will be in a much smaller capacity than before because I'm just not going to get wrapped up in fanboy bullshit anymore. They're not worth my time. If they want to let their lives revolve around a lifeless piece of plastic and metal, God help 'em.

And if they don't like what I have to say, good. I'll keep writing about the shit I hate in this industry but they're not going to provoke a response out of me anymore.

I've lost interest in current gen gaming, but I'm still heavily drawn to SNES/PS1 titles.
