The reason most PS3 can't play PS2 games is it requires some of PS2 hardware. More hardware in small space equals more heat. Heat was the cause of 360 RRoD.

I don't mean to call you out, but Sony is known for firmware updates that cause a lot of problems. It just isn't normal for the FW update to brick the console.
The firmware bricking isn't wide spread, but just imagine if you were one of these poor bastards that had the misfortune. Would you not be very upset? Or would you say ahh shucks, no biggie and then go buy another system? I know I would be ready to go smash something. |
| damndl0ser said: I am certain that microsoft has problems with their firmware as well. But your right, the PS3 has never had an instance of fw upgrade problems before. My bad. |
not saying they have not had problem's but I have updated 6 PS3's mine and other family member's ps3's for them and never had a problem with the firmware updates. the problem my be USER end, due sometime's to :
may for example: "don't shut off power while firmware is updating the PS3"
some thing's happen and it should be a minority, I have found that if anything in electronic's will go wrong it would go wrong in the first 90 day's after that your chances of something going wrong is pretty low, unless there happen's to be a fault in the system. which happen's
It will happen 100% but the point is we do not know when, everything run's down so I do not dwell on it that much anyway. just my experience is that the ps3's have been very reliable. but that is just my experience

Hate these people who call you xbot or troll.
Of course you don't need to trust Sony since the do such things. But there is always risks in every product you buy.
If you can't trust Sony so much that you actually won't buy Ps3, you must think, is Ps3 worth of those risks?I think it is.

the ps3's Cell processor contains the complete ISA of the ps2, there just is no implementation for the software for PS2 emulation ON THE Cell processor YET!, that's the Key word YET. and the way the PS2 is still selling Sony is not in any hurry to do that yet.
EXAMPLE:
http://www.siliconera.com/2009/06/29/sony-patents-emotion-engine-emulation-technology-for-cell-processors/
PlayStation 3s without PS2 backwards compatibility are missing the Emotion Engine, a chip Sony designed as the PS2’s CPU. What if the PS3’s cell processor could emulate the Emotion Engine? Theoretically, all PlayStation 3s would be able to play PS2 games even if a console didn’t have the proper hardware. According to a recent patent filed by Sony ComputerEntertainment in the US, Sony has the code and technology ready to do this.

i dont no how many people had there ps3 break because of the firmware update and yeah i should have said the one that break the console. i know that the latest one was to fix a problem with the one before it. (something to do with uncharted) i would be annoyed if it was because of the update and if it is the update sony should like you said own up to it and replace them but for the hardware failure all electronics have a chance of breaking down and the industry has set an industry stand of 3% of the total sold breaking down because of this. i only no that sony told the bbc the uk breakage was less than 0.5%. so if my console was to break because of the electronics i would be annoyed but i wouldnt blame sony but if it was because of something they done i would blame them |
Sony told the BBC that... because the BBC didn't believe them... and think it's a big problem.
