Forums - Gaming - I can't bring myself to trust Sony anymore

So I should start with a little bit of my gaming history. I've been a gamer since I first got my Nintendo as a kid (I especially liked castlevania, zelda, and mario). From there, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Saturn, N64, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and now 360 and Wii. I've also been playing PC games all during this, and have owned a few of the handheld consoles.

I've known for a while that it's primarily about the money for these companies, so it's cool with me that Nintendo is almost solely aiming at the casual gamer (keyword almost). It also doesn't bother me that microsoft completely overcharges on some of its product (hard drives anyone?).

Then take Sony. I was very hestitant to buy a $600 system for any reason, so I decided to wait it out, which turned out to be the better move. With so few exclusives at first, and such a high price for the console, just didn't seem worth it. Blu-ray didn't mean much either since I knew either a cheaper alternative would come out soon enough (guess I'm not a victim of the 'ohhh it's shiny!' thing), and I kind of prefer digital downloads for that anyways.

Then are the repeated issues with their updates. It seems like once a year, they release an update that somehow messes up the system. Now thats fine in the past because they owned up to it, and took care of it. But, recently that hasn't been the case (hope I linked that right, new to the whole forums thing), and people are not happy with this. Whether this is the case or not, and maybe someone could clarify because I haven't heard anything about this for a few weeks, but this makes it seem like Sony messed up and didn't want to take care of it themselves. Whether this is actually the case or not, its still pretty bad PR to release an update, and whether it causes problems or not, make it known that customers will have to pay up to $150 for repairs. I don't really believe in coincidences.

Now I know someone who's reading this is going to say 'well what about RRoD?'. Last I checked, M$ fessed up to that, and has poured LOTS of money into remeding the situation. And yes, I've gotten RRoD, so it's not like I'm speaking as if it hasn't affected me. That's what I expect from these companies though. Actually, it shows Microsoft as a more responsible company. Should Sony ever have an issue like this in the future, I don't trust them to take it on themselves to fix it.

And no backwords compatibility anymore? Come on. I still play some PS1 games (For whatever reason I LOVE Einhander).

I don't know, without jumping at my throat, can anyone point out some things that make Sony a credible company when it coms to integrity and taking care of their customer base?

They make awesome games for me.

I didn't read it yet but I got a glimpse of this:
"And no backwords compatibility anymore? Come on. I still play some PS1 games (For whatever reason I LOVE Einhander)."

All PS3 are PS1 backwards compatible.

So I'll post my assessment based on that:
Fail thread is fail.

The slim isn't so I've been told.

Agreed, didn't mean to say PS3 doesn't have good games. I'm more talking about their credibility/integrity as a company (in terms of video games, don't know anything about their other divisions).

How so? I'm just bringing up a legimate concern of mine, I'm looking for someone to counteract what I've said (in an intelligence manner of course).

@ r505Matt )

hehe, you can be "told" anything on the internet, but you have to make an effort to filter out the misinformation and the fud, which you apparently didn't do
