Forums - Sony - PS3 Strategy is Starting to Pay Off

It's too late for sony to catch up already, and we haven't seen the best of xbox 360 yet, (Natal or xbox 360 price cut) Don't tell me Elite got a price cut, it's just pro with a larger harddrive.

IMO PS3 is going to end up in a distance dead last.

Well, if the current trend in sales continue, the PS3 could catch up very quickly, especially when the gap between the 2 consoles has decreased this year. Plus, the PS3 currently has 3 strong titles for each region, 2 of which are guaranteed successes. Those titles are FFXIII (HUGE in Japan where it's exclusive to PS3) and Gran Turismo 5 (Halo of racing games in Europe). Agent has a chance at rocketing PS3 sales in the US if it manages to get publicity on equal level as GTA. Both companies have things up their sleeve, not just Microsoft.

If I can recall correctly ppl wer so confident early this year that the gap would be 10m by now specially when charttrak released a report showing 360>wii and 360 saw huge adjustment (But was adjusted back down as the report was confirmed wrong) ppl were so sure abt the 10m gap.....well were is it now? ppl also said ps3 will be back selling low 3 weeks after price cut.....well wat happened? my point here is don't be so sure yet about how natal will do this and that cause what if it doesn't do anything at all.

What do tracking inaccuracies have to do with the success/failure of a product or in this case, Natal?

To think Sony did not know the kind of loses they had to suffer with the strategy they took, thats hard to imagine, no matter what type of fumbling buffoons you think they are, they still have accountants to put up projection numbers. They bit the bullet and gambled.

I also cannot believe MS were ignorant of the weaknesses of the 360 hardware and design, saying that would be accusing MS of complete incompetency, they fucking knew whats went on, and may also have known what Sony was up to and could tell they will be bleeding badly, and so did everything they could to take advantage of the situation to push an early launch. They wanted market share and they succeeded, this is a 2nd generation game console, the youngest of the 3.

Of course they adjusted as they went along, but I refuse to believe either company did what they did in ignorance, these are veterans.

I doubt that they planned for those losses in 2005 or 2004, it was more a calculated move.

Option A: PS3 is stillborn

Option B: Cut the price and lose billions.

Umm...how exactly? Seriously, if Sony and Take-Two are trying to get this on the same level as GTA in terms of publicity, it could be a massive hit. Why take my word for it? Just look at GTA4 sales this gen. Or GTA3.

Whatever i dont care just telling you how it is. If bluray catches on it will ensure the ps3 has a long life.

Except that is not how it is, actually. The PS2 was the second weakest system. The Xbox had an edge in almost every technical aspect. It was not the technology that kept them selling, but the popularity. This has been shown in many non-Sony systems as well, which you initially denied. Rath is pretty much spot on for this one.

You're struggling here arent you?. Bluray if it really takes off will ensure a long ps3 lifespan. That is unless they keep cutting the price and rely on software for profits, then it would be unsustainable.

*sigh*

You're not even arguing against what he (or I) said, we were pointing out that you made several large errors in your original post. Things you said were plain wrong. That original post had nothing to do with Blu-Ray.

Besides, there are far cheaper bluray players out there than the PS3 and the nextbox is bound to support bluray as well. Don't see how it's going to keep the PS3 alive.

Oh, now it makes sense.

Thanks!
