The proof will be in the sales. Thinking that the bundle won't sell well is pretty dumb considering it is the best bundle probably ever released. The normal Elite is $300 with 1 controller, no game, and a 120 gig HDD. The bundle has 2 controllers ($50 for the extra), the biggest game of the year ($60) and a 250 gig HDD (worth at least $50-$60 more than 120 gig). All in all at least $150 worth of extras for only $100 more in price. Not to mention it has a special limited edition paintjob. Definitely the best deal I have seen for a long time, especially in this generation. All of the PS3 bundles that have come and gone have had less stuff for more money... |
I guess we will see about sales and how many are actually even produced.
But the part i bolded you didnt respond to. why do you seem to say so matter of factly that plenty of other people would sell their current 360 to spend $400 for something they could buy for $110 (controller and game)?
OT
Bundles work to entice people not ready to purchase a system to get off the fence for the bang of the buck.
If someone is going to spend $400 for a 360 why would they wait for MW2 when WaW, MW and Call of Duty 3, along with many other GREAT shooters already on the system.
Is there really an untapped market for people interested in FPS that dont own a 360? Why would the most expensive SKU entice them to jump? Had they simply bundled a PRO SKU with MW2 for $299 and really given people a good reason i could see MAYBE 230k.
This bundle i say we will see it come in around 200k.
No way it doubles sales, ID doubt there will even be 150k in the channels.
uh.... this game won't push system sales for the 360, all it takes is some common sense to figure that out.

Yes i can see that happening.
PROUD MEMBER OF THE PLAYSTATION 3 : RPG FAN CLUB

Modern Warfare 2's potential to sell systems is already limited by the fact that it's the 4TH game in the series to release this generation. Just like with Halo 3: ODST, there really isn't a single Call of Duty fan that doesn't already own a system with at least one of the previous games. Even beyond that though, the game is a multiplatform title on 4 different platforms, no less!
Modern Warfare 2 might push 360 sales into the 200,000 margin thanks to the heavy marketing and the bundle, but it has absolutely no chance of reaching 250k, much less 300k.
300k to 350k X360 sales for the MW2 launch week is possible. Black Friday as well. Walmart deal will help out with X360 sales as well. Remember with Walmart deal X360 Arcade costs only $99. $100 gift voucher.
MW2 X360 250GB deal looks sweet. MW2 software will sell a lot more on the X360 than PS3 worldwide.

You have to remember that rest of the world doesn't have black friday, only USA has black friday (no special 360 arcade offer in europe). Even thanksgiving is only celebrated in NA, rest of the world doesn't have any special holiday at the same time. So boost for 360 in USA would have to be huge because rest of the world is not going to have much bigger sales as previous week.
There are no systemsellers for the xbox360 anymore and after gt5 and god of war the same goes for the ps3. Thats why they both come with motion stuff, to attract new crowds. hardcore gamers that still dont have a console and will buy one probably do so because they are finally old enough to pay for one or they are sick of upgrading their pc's. And that crowd isnt that big. The ps3 has a slight advantage that they can sell it as an blu ray drive but MS is trying do add that value by Netflix, zune marketplace and Sky like services.
So I dont expect any miracles for MS until the launch of Natal, that might be a big shift or a huge flop, nobody can tell yet. At least there is excitement on the dev side and the media were all over it (not only gaming media, but main stream). These are good indications that MS doesnt see it as a little extra. They are taking the serious approach unlike Sony with the Magic Wand.
I'd say it stands a chance, due to holiday season effect.
