com on guys..the PS still got FF XIII which will move consoles like crazy...so the win is already confirmed!

yes Wii got the new Mario but i dont see that this will move much consoles cos the most mario fans already got a Wii!

and what about the boost provided by the launch of FF13 demo?

Thats like saying GT5 will not push consoles because GT5P is already out, just doesnt make since ~(O_o)~

Well his comment was meant to be a paradoy of his considering he stated that Mario couldn't move consoles because a Mario game is already on the system.  His parody of it wasn't too good but your point proves TT Makaveli wrong.  We all know that just because a franchise is already on the system doesn't mean it can't still move hardware (especially in Japan).  TT Makaveli's argument is indeed illogical thanks to your point and atma's parody.

Sales from 06th Jan 08 to...

  DS PSP
25th Oct 08 2,235,565 2,778,644
03rd Jan 09 3,972,322 3,596,542

I predict a similar fate!

...

Okay, not really (DSi release), but I think Wii's holiday boost will be slightly bigger. Should end up close, either way.

Also, that "Goes to prove you can't rely on the casual audience alone" comment is crap.

Aha...Even though that wasn't directed at me, I haven't thought of it that way.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Indeed but now we can also look at it from a Halo prospective, ODST only pushed hardware around 25kish. Although not a full fledged 'new' Halo universe game, was still touted as a system seller by some. So it is still debatable. Is an updated Mario with co-op following in the footsteps of Mario: Galaxy a console pusher? Is an updated GT from the demo already released a console pusher? We shall find out, but by all logic the answer is yes. Then again we have seen many surprises thus far this gen....

cord- well the main point you bring up is that top brands get larger pushes during the holiday seasons. Wii was struggling this time last year in Japan as well but it still got sizable increases during the holiday season. Same with DS who was also struggling (even without the need for DSi). So I do think that is one factor that needs to be brought it.

But also need to point out that PS3 has made quite a name for itself in Japan over the past month or 2 which really could mean it's taken a lot of that top brand away from Wii. Of course we made similar arguments last year and those turned out false as well.

What I just think needs to be stated is that Wii and PS3 have essentially been close since the end of holiday season in Japan from last year and it looks like it could be anyone's game. There's just a few things we all have to worry about.

1. How much top brand appeal has Wii lost?

2. How big will the likes of NSMB Wii, Tales of Graces, FFCC: Crystal Bearers, SW3, Taiko 2 be towards creating a prominent lineup for a strong holiday season for Wii?

3. How big will FF13 be for PS3?

4. Is it possible that PS3 "peaked" before the holiday season like it did in 2007?

These are really the questions that matter in deciding this and if they even out in positive and negatives for both we might see a virtual tie. But if one dominates the others in these answers then we'll see some distance.

The 50 dollar demo?................

It should be the PS3 for 2009.

those estimates could be 10% off making it possible that ps3 outsold wii by 20%

It is not surprising. In 2010 PS3 will win by a larger margin. Everybody knows that Sony launched a console ahead of its time (the cell, blu-ray, free gaming network) , and lost much money because of that. In 2010 they will start to obtain profits through PS3 selling. Multiplats games don't do justice to PS3, because everybody knows 360 is, at the present, the hd console of choice for the majority of developers. This year things started to change in PS3 world (everybody is feeling it, no?) and now it will only get better. Mark my words.

i would be the happiest person on the earth if that happens, japan is always a good marker for the way that trends tend to change, if things are swinging in ps3's favour there then it wont be long before the same happens in the eu, and dare i even say the us??
of course we all know how many console the wii sells still in the eu, its madness i tell you, madness, this is a rare event which i doubt we will ever witness again.

it's the future of handheld
