Forums - Microsoft - Can the 360 win another NPD month?

People who thought Metroid Prime 3 was going to be a huge seller were being too optimistic. Metroid Prime 2 sold poorly and personally I think Metroid Prime 1 sold on the "surprise" effect: People thought they were getting a normal FPS and were disappointed when they got something else. Prime 3's sales are disappointing, especially since it supposedly prooves the Wii is great for shooters, but there was definitely no proof that it would be a huge seller.

Brawl and Mario Kart have two things Prime 3 did not: Mario and multiplayer. Mario sells on Wii, it's proven, and I think a lot of people buy Wii as a party system. I have two friends that wanted to rent Metroid Prime 3 on two separate "Wii nights", and both had to be told it has no multiplayer. Too bad...

All that said, yeah, I think 360 will probably outdo Wii for October and probably even November (a lot of people say "SMG, SMG", but supply has more to do with whether Wii outsells 360 in November or not).

Yes, but now we get to see that momentum sustained through 08, with only SSBB to actually face the X360 juggernaught next year :)

only? it's going to be bigger than halo 3, we just aren't realising that yet.

I remember when people were predicting outrageous sales for Metroid Prime 3 (some were even thinking it's sales would rival Halo 3's), of course we now know that it is simply not the case.  So basically the only thing that can be said is that all sure bets are off the table when it comes to the Wii because it really is harder to predict what kind of sales it's games will have.  Everyone predicting incredibly high sales for Nintendo's hardcore franchise titles have to remember that the Wii's userbase is now much more diverse and a title like SSBB might not sell as well as some people are expecting.  I'm not saying it won't sell in the millions but you're comparing it against a title like Halo 3 in which the vast majority of the userbase is attracted to such games.

some people have no sense, those same people were saying Metriod was one of Nintendos "big 3" when it clearly is not.....best selling games on the GC were Mario Kart and SSBM, closely followed by Super Mario Sunshine....Prime was 6th and Prime 2 was 30th

Best selling games on the X-box was Halo 2, followed by Halo (quite a way behind) then much further behind is Tom Clancy splinter cell....Halo was all the x-box had in terms of AAA sellers (3 million+)

I think Halo 3 will probably manage similar numbers to Halo 2 (8.0-8.5 million) wheras MK and SSBB will definately sell at least 7 million each , and have the potential to sell much more (probably nearing 10 million)

The thing about the Wii lineup next year is that you have to imagine that we're going to be seeing a lot of new titles announced for the platform that are already in development. It would be foolish to assume that there aren't more companies out there who were caught completely off-guard with the Wii sales numbers and are now scrambling to rearrange their development teams and switch platforms for some of their games.

I suspect that in the coming months we'll be seeing more Monster Hunter 3 scenarios where big games will be switched to the Wii platform. Right now it looks like SSBB and Mario Kart will be pulling the load for Nintendo all year, but it isn't realistic to assume their lineup outside of those titles is going to be barren.

Don't forget that WiiWare launches early next year.

it could of if the games I wanted to play weren't delayed. Assassin's Creed, Army of Two, etc. Unless Microsoft is rereleasing Halo 3 with an advertising blitz. Nintendo had nothing AAA that month and still kept up. Back down to 2nd place were you belong 360. To bad
