Did you actually read my entire post? I said it was an easy fix for most people on this site, but new owners coming on board will not be aware of this issue and how to correct it. As I said previously these people will phone Sony's customer service and get the answer. The entire process will be annoy many people. And this is their first impression on Christmas morning.
It does not sound like you have much of a home theater system if that is how you set up your PS3. After these very simple hard wire connections (hopefully HDMI) you now have the settings to play with:
1) Video settings for PS3 games
2) Video settings to play PS2 games (and these are so clear)
3) Video settings for movies
4) Audio for movies - bitstream, PCM, which deocoder, 5.1 channel, 7.1 channel - and again for games
5) Media sharing with your home pc: that is just fun
6) Setting up PSN
And to make this even more enjoyable, you are sitting way too close to your HDTV because your wireless controller needs to be connected to your PS3 to charge it.
Your right, just like setting up a VCR.
