Forums - Gaming - Anyone Play Borderlands?

I was just wondering as I picked it up this evening and am about 2 hours into it.

I read reviews and was still not sure but decided to take the plunge.

I am coming from fallout 3 so it is a big task I suppose to match that.

So I was wondering what folks thoughts on it was who have played it.

Is it long.

Is it hard.

Is it enjoyable in your opinion.

I am finding the weapons layout a bit tricky at the moment but I know that will take time so no big deal really.

Getting back to base can take a bit of time as well at the moment.

Is it a full blown rpg like fallout 3 or is it rpg lite?

I have to say overall so far it is looking promising but different.

So your thoughts on it would be appreciated.

1. Is it long? I didn't beat it, but I put 10 hours into it so far.

2. Is it hard? Not really, no. Most of it is a little bit of grinding and you go on.

3. Is it enjoyable? Best FPS in the last year imo. I was getting tired of the genre. So yes, enjoyable.

4. Is it a full blown rpg? No it isn't even close. Bioshock is more RPG than this is. Just because it has a leveling system doesn't mean it is an RPG. Not even the vagueness that the genre seems to have accumulated. The only similarity it has to fallout is a somehwat open world and it being quest based.

Nice one especially the best fps comment.
I found the first boss fight a bit sticky mind you.

Not yet, so much stuff going on and I can't seem to play games. I have had the game in my 360 turned on, in the title screen for the past week. I get home from work, turn on the 360 and then I run out of time to actually play the game and it goes on like that every day.

I've only leveled up two different characters to level 7, so i cant really give any hard info on the game. But im really enjoying the FPS/RPG combo. And the skill-build (RPG) is really nicely done and depeding on your roll, the build can really help your team out. Like the Turret Health Regen etc. Or the Siren melee slowdown on enemies. Helps alot during certain quests and enemies later on.

I like the artstyle and the game on all high looks sweet (PC). Console version has more pop ins and it takes longer for texture to load. As for difficulty, im not sure. I played a recomended level 10 quest, and it was quite hard as a level 7, dided a few times.

As for length.. not sure either. You level up faster in the beginning, obviously, but i think the level cap is 50 or so?

I like the weapon layout, and theres alot of weapons to pick up, but only a few that are truly epic. Ive sold alot of my inventory, but the money so far is quite useless, hopefully you'll be able to spend some on some good fire power later on. Or if later on the ammo supplies run dry. Dunno.

Im not sure if i would enjoy it as much alone, but co-op is really fun atm. It will probably be more challenging later on. And skill build will probably have more of an impact. But imo, its a solid 80-85 game atleast. This is all from a PC point of view.

Sounds like you are enjoying it mafkka.
I thought about it before I bought it but judging by the players who are playing it I would imagine my hunch was right and this is a good game.
I like the way the fps genre is been moved away from the railroad linear concept.
It can only be good imo.

I agree. I like that is quest based FPS with a level up system. And the "open world" is nice.

I got a question too.. this is not an MMO where there is one big world that everybody plays on. So can there be any online "fights"? Ive seen the Arena thingy, is that for within your own "party" or is it a place that gathers anyone online willing to fight?

EDIT. And what does one gain by winning these arena fights?

Been doing some two player split screen, and have a real good time with it. Did a Soldier/Sniper and a Soldier/Brick combo. Found some interesting stuff to. Like the Brick guy who was playing with me found teleporting grenades.
