Forums - Sony - Insomniac: Graphics>Framerate, our future games will probably not be 60 fps

It seems to me that Insomniac at first wanted to believe that making sure their games run a rock solid 60 fps would pay off. Yet Insomniac is not the first developer that came up with the same conclusion. That is while people online claims they want a game running fine at 60 fps yet it doesn't seem to have any impact of the reviews of the game nor it's sales.

In order for a game to run at 60 fps you got to make sure the GPU can finish each frame under 16ms. GPU can only do so much so fast. Having a game to run 30 fps gives 2x more time for the GPU to do each frame which it turns allows more calculations for more special effects, more characters on a screen at once, etc..

Around the Network

I hope they can still pump out great looking games while keeping 60fps.

I just beat A Crack in Time and it was great.

If they can have more graphical effects and such while at 30fps without any drops then I don't think I'd be too upset. However, I would feel some sadness if there was, for example, a new Ratchet and Clank game and playing it doesn't feel as smooth as A Crack in Time. As nice as the grahpics are, the smoothness with the solid 60fps was great and I commend the developers for doing it while still improving the graphics from their first PS3 Ratchet and Clank game.
