Forums - Microsoft - ODST single player only -- worth it?

I have played Halo since... uh, the dawn of Halo, I guess.  I have never enjoyed the online much.

Before you freak out at my strangeness, consider this: when Halo 1 came out, I was a huge PC gamer.  Halo MP, compared to MP PC shooters of the day, didn't cut it for me, and frankly the PC Battlefield games have always been much more my style.  Still, I liked the SP game -- it wasn't worth full price, but I did enjoy it, and it was cool to see how far ahead Halo had brought the console shooter genre.

I scored Halo 2 for $5 (new, clearance at Target), just before Halo 3 hit the shelves.  It was fun SP, obviously worth the $5.

I picked up Halo 3 a couple months later... I found the SP campaign a little lacking compared to its predecessors, but it was decent.  I heard the MP was awesome (being on the 360 and all), but I honestly have only played it a few times.  Space plasma blasters just aren't my thing.  I like bullets (not the ones fired at me, of course), and it shouldn't take more than a few to take down an enemy, so Halo bullets (aka pellets) aren't really my style either.

So here's the question:  I hear ODST is the best Halo story yet.  Is the SP really worth it (for someone like me)?  Lets face it, I'm gonna be playing MW2 soon, and I'm not going to get into Halo MP.. probably ever.  I know that's generally perceived as the great part of any Halo game.  Anyone who has played the SP campaign of ODST... is the game worth $60 for that alone?  $40?  $30?

$60 == CoD4 grade campaign, in my book.  $15 == CoD3 campaign.

well considering its only a 6 hour campaign hows $15 sound? it maybe the best single player but it is definitely the shortest, most of the value from odst is the mythic multiplayer maps and firefight, ie multiplayer.

Hey there, if you have an eBay account you could pick up ODST for $45-50 in stores and sell the Multiplayer Disc online for around $20.00 and keep the SP for yourself. I really have enjoyed the SP ODST campaign, as some of the achievements require you to think outsite the "halo" box. For example, one achievement is based on stealth, not firing a single weapon in a stage. Aside from that it still is a Halo game, the SP has everything you could want.. huge banshee battles, tank wars, laser vs hordes of covenant *MOAN*, rockets, 'splosions all over the place. I have not yet even used the MP disc yet, and have been focused on Firefight and Story modes and feel it was well worth the $100 I paid for the disc + controller.

I liked the single player campaign on ODST more then Halo 3...

It allows you to go anywhere where you have access so if you are just going straight through it is short. But if you take your time and enjoy it, it can extend past 8 hours easily...

Firefight also comes on the disk and you can play that alone...

Overall, I have seen a lot worse games at $60...

I payed $30 for it(Best Buy deal). I wouldn't have payed more.

Oh and for anyone who really has issues with the campaigns "shortness," I have played all previous Halo games, have achieved a level 35 ranking in Halo 3 MP and have beaten each version on the hardest difficulty and can honestly say that ODST's campaign SP is TOUGH on harder difficulties if you actually search area's looking for clues (achievments included) etc. On normal, this is a probably a 5-7 hour conquer, compare that with Dead Space, which on normal I was able to beat in 6 hours and really no one bitches about the shortness of that game. In the end it is all about the experiences, and for me, ODST is one hell of a sweet experience.. music included!

Rent it, finish it in 3 days then return it, trust me save your money

the achievements are simple, on some you need a quick look at a guide.....
If your smart and take cover legendary is a breeze, for a full priced game your ripping yourself off, you should honestly try the multiplayer component to get your true value out of the game...
apart from the beta, it will be gathering dust from now on.

It was pretty short. I finished it in a day on heroic. I was playing off and on so about 9 hours total?

Yes it is very polished, you will like it. Firefight mode is a blast to, give it a try if you have live.
