Sad news story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKGF2bbxQ6E

A good friend of mine lives in one of the residential areas hit by the fire(Rancho Bernardo). His family was evacuated Monday morning. It's pretty screwed up.

I personally live probably 60 miles from the closest fire. Despite this, a good chunk of the sky is covered in smoke and I can smell the burning. If you randomly woke up today, didn't have a watch, and looked outside, you would have thought it was 6 in the evening. I hate to think what it's like closer to the fires.

Good luck to anyone who's home is in danger of being destroyed, as well as the firefighters working to put this out.

Around the Network

i live in chula vista, the fire is 1 or 2 miles from my place, the sky is orange and theres ashes everywhere

Is there no evacuation order for where you live?

Good luck.

Same thing happened here in Greece 2 months ago; we even had 60 people dead. Good luck, everyone.

Did it turn out to be property developers? I was watching the news and that was who the Greek government (the inventors of democracy!) were suspecting at the time.

And this fire, do they know the cause of it yet? I'm guessing it was probably a cigarette out of a car window onto some abnormally dry grass.

These fires are a naturally occuring phenomenon in the region. The problem this time is that the winds have been carrying the flames more than normal. This is the fault of nature and humans choosing to live in the face of danger. Good luck to all those in the area. My thoughts are with you.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

There has been no official announcement YET. Many claim a hit at our tourism. IMO it must have been either that or property developers. More than 60(!!!) fires bursted out of nowhere altogether; it was a nightmare.
