as for the afterlife, i cant tell, i haven't being dead. i'm atheist, but i do believe the conscience live on, why? i'll give you hawking as an example, hawking use to say data(anything) that goes through a black hole simply dissapears, but that then he realized that that breaks physics and rectified his theory. data(ideas, thought, emotion) is/are electrical impulses and chemicals, they cannot dissapear, whether our conscience returns to the planet(FFVII WTF!!!) or emlds with the consciones of the planet(if it has one) its something i cant found out.

The biological imperative is the meaning of life.

Eg life makes more life.

And no I don't believe in the afterlife. Though it'd obviously be awesome if one did exist.

Life may have no meaning besides the biological need of reproduction.
But, if universes are infinitely being created, so all possible quantum brain states are being infinitely repeated everywhere within the tenth dimension or such, for some universes should be similar to ours. Like, with each universe born, you'll have 1/10^-100 to be born altogether. So maybe you can live again after all.
