Forums - Gaming - Will Bonk escape extinction?

Platforms - Wii/360/PS3

Well we all know Bonk and his crusade to compete against Nintendo's Mario and Sega's Sonic. Once again he will go up against his old foes when the three of them release new sidecrolling 2D adventures this fiscal year. But in a recent interview with Nintendo Power its developers said their was alot more to the name than meets the eye. The developer then hints that gamers will choose whether Bonk (As a franchise) will go extinct or not. Thats right Bonk's future is in our hands. So lets look at this Brink of extinction and see whether Bonk as a franchise is worth saving

Bonk Brink of Extinction is set to launch on all three major platforms via their online consoles. You will be seeing Bonk released this fall right when its 2D competitors take the market by storm (LittleBigPlanetPSP/NEwSuperMarioBrosWii). The trailer really shows the graphical power expected to be seen come launch of Bonk this Christmas.

Above you can see the drastic improvement in visuals when compared to the classics. This new 3D take on sidescrolling appears to take on a life of its own. Their are going to be three worlds in the next Bonk game, each world will feature ten stages. Another new feature to Bonk is going to be online co-op allowing two gamers to team up and beat the game. Their will be many levels in which both characters will be needed to advance.

Much like Mario , Bonk is getting an array of new powers and abilities. The perfect example is frost breath in which Bonk can instantly freeze his opponents comparable to Mario's new Ice powers unleashed in NewSuperMarioBrosWii. Other powers like fire breath will make the game an instant platforming classic. I can't wait to get my hands on Bonk and go freeze some dino baddies. The developers promised to mix in the best features of the classics with the best attributes of modern side scrollers.

Alongside its launch Bonk : Brink of Extinction will have two DLC modes right off the bat to improve the games playability.

2 dlc at launch...things like this annoy me.

the only bonk i played was on the gameboy and it wasnt very good at all...so i really couldnt care less. i dont think the developers really cared that much either, otherwise they would have included all their stuff in the game.

LOL Bonk never even heard of it till 2005. Its like Kirby its niche, not that popular and yet have followers.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

To be honest I never heard of Bonk either untill it came to the VC. Then everyone hyped it up as the flagship title for the TurboGrafix. So I downloaded it. It was alright but it was nothing mind blowing. I just thought to myself, no wonder the TurboGrafix failed. However I love the idea of them bringing it back. I think one of the main reasons I didn't really feel Bonk was because it was made in the Genesis/SNES era and a game so old that I have never played is obviously not going to hold its own against my other VC software.

I have fond memories of Bonk on the TG16. I might just pick up that game on XBL. I agree with MrBubbles, though. 2 DLC at launch makes my ass itch.

The TG16 had a few fun games, including a 4 player dungeon game that I can't remember the name of at the moment.

I give this thread a 9.7.
