Forums - Gaming - Nintendo’s true competitor (Malstrom)

Heres another wonderfula rticle made by Malstrom:

http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2009/10/26/email-thank-you-for-nintendos-true-competitor/

If someone here thinks Malstrom wants NSMB Wii to flopped say I.

*facepalm*

The more I read his articles the more I seen him as anti gaming.

Um, anyone notice how we only mentions 1st or 2nd party games up until the SNES and NES, where he lists third-party games too?

I could think of plenty third-party games for the N64 and GCN that were fantastic.

Probably because few of them were system-sellers. The Resident Evil games and the Rogue Squadrons for GameCube, the Rogue Squadron game for N64, but few others.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

@The Ghost:
A good article indeed. Malstrom unpredictably passes from madman rants to good analyses and back. He's always too biased by his own tastes, but while this makes him say idiotic things when trying to analyse other platforms' gamers, he's quite spot-on about old and most of the new Nintendo gamers (although he always short-circuits when hardcore gamers, including Nintendo ones, are concerned). This time we can appreciate his acumen. Now, though, I'm waiting for his next lunatic rant, I expect continuity in his cyclothymia.

Edit: About 3D, well thought controls, and their customizability, if possible, are of the essence, in more complex games they can make the difference between enjoyment and near unplayability.

I will never understand all the backlash against malstrom. It seems like people argue against him just for the sake of arguing against him. I have seen very few good arguments going against malstrom.. Just the usual "blah blah blah he's an arrogant retro gamer or nintendo fanboy or nobody analyst."

I mean sure I don't agree with the guy 100%, and he can take certain things too far, but he is by far the most intelligent gaming "analyst" out there if you want to call him that. Hell he's possibly the most intelligent gaming journalist out there, at least that I've come across.

I'll take this quote for you:

but he is by far the most intelligent gaming "analyst" out there.

Everyone dont even knew gaming analyst means. pachter was analyst he I think even analyzed the gaming trends. but believe me, Malstrom aint even in league with pachter. Im reading articles and opinions made by pachter for the LULZ but Malstrom takes it seriously. I tell this but Pachter's opinions didnt reflect on his real job. Companies didnt invest on pachter's prediction(which private and only known by his clients and him) for nothing. I even bet Nintendo of america was Pachter's client we never know.

its like this; if we shipped MK wii at that number what profit will our company have? Including the shipment expenses and packaging. Will we making profit even with the recession? Pachter predicts it can malstrom do that?

AGAIN, because its Pachter's opinions doesnt mean we have to take it seriously. He even do it just for the LULZ and now he is popular. Seem core gamers like us caught with his act and ride with it. Malstrom was different. Simply because he cite another market analysts works(which BTW basic for Pachter right now I even think its the first to teach in marketing class) he is the known knowledgeable guy that cna predict everything.

When Malstrom is right, he's very sharp, but when he starts ranting, he's just a sad apology for a Charlie Brooker wannabe.

Bang on!! Give me games that I can just pick up and play without the cinematic drivel and endless buttons to press. It's no wonder people see Nintendo as THE games maker they have those games that you can pick up and play. People that say they are too cutesy are just so damned jealous because the playability factor is unbelievably good with nintendo. I still play mario kart snes on a pc emulator still!! I say to anyone get a hold of zsnes for pc and play mario kart snes online it's by far the best experience ever!

I think the backlash is a reaction to the OP and others saying what a genius this guy is, and you just said "he is by far the most intelligent gaming "analyst" ... theres certainly no proof in that post of his! He is just ranting and speculating, igoring facts and picking whatever suits the point of his article. Dude, he might as well be masterbating about Nintendo! :p

I mean he can write and we can all have fun reading and discuss it, but please, stop gushing about him, hes no genius and its insulting to say that he is, unless he is 5 years old, then yeah, we should all bow before him.

The backlash is due to the fact that he's an arrogant psycopath who thinks that Miyamoto is actually a liability and should retire for the sake of Nintendo. He also thinks that the entire future of Nintendo is going to be about user-generated content, just because he's so scared of Wii Music.

But we're getting Excitebike with a level editor, and it's going to be all sorts of awesome, and he can go shit in his pants out of fear. The original Excitebike had a level editor, so this isn't a new direction at all. Now we just need an online Mach Rider with a level editor, woohoo!
