Thank you CGI that was a pretty great post.

Based on my experiences this gen, the PS3's story-based games, such as: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted 1 & 2, MGS4, inFAMOUS and others have really been at the top of my charts, though Nintendo and Microsoft DO have games in their libraries that are well written and intriguing: Metroid Prime 3, Mass Effect etc... Just based on my experience this gen, the PS3 just seems to have more of those kinds of games and that's why I tend to favor it's library. |
waitwait CGI, I can understand Heavenly Sword or Uncharted, but MGS4 and inFamous? O_O;;;; Story telling has to be backed up by actual good stories ya know? =P
Anyways, libary of fun goes to Wii, it's very different than the seriousness of well, serious gaming, and I'm often not very impressed by console gaming on that front because a lot of them these days are dumped down PC games which is just weak as hell, but I'm a JRPG freak so 360 has that area atm, but I sold my 360 already which means I don't give a rat's ass about it anymore since PS3 is catching up in that area as well not to mention I already beat all the 360 JRPGs out atm. Nintendo first party games do one very simple thing to the emotion in general, it makes me happy, that's one really hard thing to do but they manage to do it for their audience, which is important for people who have real jobs lol.

I'm personally a fan of narrative games and jRPGs. Also, I like LOCAL multiplayer. I'm not a big fan of ONLINE / FPS games. A year or 2 ago. I would have said the Xbox 360 had the best choice for me. Over time, the PS3 became the better system for me and now jRPGs are being announced for it pretty regularly.
On another note, it looks like the Wii will be getting better over the next year or so.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well, in Heavenly Sword's case, I really like the relationship Nariko had with her sister, there was something very special and personal about that, reminded me a lot of my brother and I. Also, with Andy Serkis on board (as Bohan - the main villian), it made the story all the more engaging. It just felt like watching actual people at times. Uncharted, well, the actors there are brilliant as well, but it's Drake's wit and his friends (Elena, Sully) that TRULY help bring together the story. You learn a lot about Drake between the two titles, the story really explains itself well. It's that quality that really keeps me interested in this great, yet young series. What I liked about inFAMOUS was that you're an ordinary guy thrown into this extraordinary scenario, similar to Condemned: Criminal Origins, which is why it (Criminal Origins) remains my favorite game of the gen, even while not being on the PS3. Anyway, I love the transitions of gameplay mechanics within the title that also help bring the story together. To me, it was well crafted, though not as higly as Uncharted or Heavenly Sword IMO. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: * sigh *, where do I start?!! I have NEVER EVER experienced a game that told a story so well, and so dramatic/emotional. I cried a certain points in the game, a first for me. There were parts that had me nearly forgetting completely that the characters in front of me were fictional, it was uncanny. To me, it remains the greatest game ever made, not for graphics, not for weapons, not for gameplay (though it was top notch IMO), but for the brilliant story created by an absolute genius. In conclusion, my passion for story-driven experiences also is a reason I'm craving to /buy/play/love HEAVY RAIN. It isn't just the jaw-dropping visuals that has me stoked, but the idea of a great story on the way, acted out in another brilliantly crafted manner. Now again, don't get me wrong, Microsoft and Nintendo have titles that can stand up to the best that Sony has to offer. It's just, for me, Sony's offerings have been more enjoyable/personal/emotional and plentiful and that's why I prefer the PS3's library. Hopefully, this better explains my position. |
OK I see now, we are very different people indeed even though we have the same interest in PS3 games lol. I thought inFamous was interesting because of the way you interacted with the environment and the power up system you have, and MGS4 was a big comedy that I couldn't stop laughing to the entire time, my brother was over at my place a little when I was playing that game and we were literally laughing our asses off at a lot of the cut scenes, that and the funny ass shit you can do in that game because Kojima is one of the biggest perverts in the video game industry that's well known lol, the dood is just funny as hell. As far as the story actually went, inFamous had pretty much nothing and MGS4 was just WTF funny. I still hold MGS the best MGS in the series lol.

wow you can't forget about valkyria chronicles for the PS3???
it had one of the best story and plot for the RPG genre and
it totally revitalized the SRPG genre. If you have a PS3 you gotta
to play the overlooked game. and the graphics are amazing too xD

PS3 has the best games out of the 3.
It has the most and best platformers on it, and that's important to me.

I mean these games tend to have interesting enough stories that at times they feel like Hollywood movies, particularly Uncharted 2 and MGS4 IMO. |
oh Uncharted 2, definitely, that game kicks so much ass that it's unreal and I like it way better than MGS4 haha. MGS4 is a bad hollywood movie if it was a movie =P Japanese script writers are too pretentious in general and it gets funny as hell, and this is coming from an Asian dood lol.

Wii, with a library of over 1000 titles its impossible to beat. (VC, WW, Wii, Gamecube.)

the graphics are not amazing and can be done on the Wii in 480p since the big cut scenes are all FMVs, but I very much enjoyed that game and abused the crap out of the battle system.

So then, you would also take PS2 over GameCube?
