Forums - General - What do you think of the Cops?

Really it depends on the area and on the cop, but mostly there fine, sometimes there a bit arsey but you've got to understand the shit they take off idiots during the day.

Not so long ago down wales My mate was really drunk in a club so i took him outside to the park over the to sit on a wall(not a great idea but i was hardly sober) i went to go get him some water i came outside and he had disappeared, I spoke to him the next day he said he fell in the bush behind the wall, police had scene it had a little laugh and took him home which i though fair play cause i wouldn't have had him in my car, so there pretty good really

The police have a difficult and dangerous job to do under what are increasingly poor circumstances. There will be a few bad eggs, they're always are in any profession. The police always have my full support.

Yeah, a respectable demeanor and a positive attitude go a long way.

I've heard of a study where pictures were shown to aboriginal and non-aboriginal youths. The picture of a cop evokes feelings of trust, safety, and authority in non-aboriginals. Show the same picture to aboriginals and you get mistrust, suspicion and fear.

Forget batons, guns or tasers, the most powerful weapon in a cop's arsenal is authority, and it's worthless when dealing with a typical First Nations person. It makes the police's job a lot harder, and leads to strife for all involved. Who knows how long it will take for these scars to heal, but it doesn't help when the actions of policemen result in a First Nations man dying of exposure and the officers responsible don't face justice.

I have also heard of a lot of stories where the cops abuse the First nations people. About ten years ago in Ontario(I think) a native man was shot "accidently" during peaceful protests and the cop lied and got off free. This is unacceptable. He was armed with a stick, but there were more than enough cops to take him down.

Cops in Canada treat the natives like Cops treat blacks in the states. Police departments in Canada actually give special prefrence to blacks and indians. They really push multi culturalism and diversity. I counted those words at least 30 times when I was reading recruitment info on the Toronto police website. They even have a class on it.. which is good I guess because different cultures have thei own way of handling things...

In Amsterdam, the cops are generally quite well. Can't say otherwise, one of my friends is on the force. I can only recant two incidents where I was less then happy with police-support:

1: During a barfight. Big fellow, cokehead, came at a friend with two shattered glasses. Another friend stopped him, got glass in his hands but we managed to wrestle him down against the bar and keep him there (you guys know me and my size, my friends are the same and it still took 4 of us to keep him down). The police was outside this whole time, and they were waiting outside for back-up while we, civilians had to keep this raging gorilla pinned down to the floor...

2: Outside a pub. Me and two others, one of which was incredibly drunk were sitting on a bench waiting for the rest to come out. We were quietly waiting when an officer urged us to move away or he'd arrest the drunk guy the second time he would make his round and we'd still be there. That was a little overzealous I thought...

First Nations & Cops really don't mix. I remember roughly 10 years ago talking to the one of the leaders of the First Nations...Putting it lightly, he wasn't too happy with out cops treated FN tribes members - lots of animosity.

Otherwise, cops are usually great people. There are always bad apples, but that's the case with any profession.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The thing is that when a person is trouble, they will be teh first ones to call the cops then turn on them later.

I did get one guy charged for riding his annoying pocketbike around my street :)

London England has the worst cops imo. When I went there during the protests they can barley hold off a crowd of 50 people.. Too soft , although they do have kewl uniforms

once i have my degree i plan on having some sort of police-related career, doing ballistics or explosives investigation or something. the police i've ever met have been alright, but i think the power gets to some of them sometimes - just like any other job.

but most of them are sound.

They have batons don't they? Cops in Canada dont pull out their guns but they will push you back if you get close.
