Gears of course.The story from either game was meh,but the cover system from gears made it more enjoyable. But I'd take halo 1 over gears because it changed the gaming industry,after its release everyone was trying to make a game equivalent or better.

Halo. Gears is just an average shooter

Halo, the online is muchmuchmuch better. I prefer the gameplay, story and universe of Halo too. Can't wait to see something of Reach.

I got into gaming again because of Halo 3. I really haven't played GoW 1 or 2 much at all. I prefer FPS over TPS and online multiplayer over single player. I didn't play the SP for GoW 2 but I did try the MP and it wasn't as grand as Halo 3. So, my choice is definitely the Halo series for me.

However, I really would like to play GoW 1 and 2 eventually :).

I'll have to go with Halo. Halo 1 was groundbreaking, and it's SP campaign pulled you in so very much. Unfortunately the SP campaign clearly was unable to maintain that magic in 2/3 however I've always been a bigger fan of MP, and I have to give that to Halo by a mile.

Well i like Gears of War more online and story. But i also love Halo's custom games the best.

I play and like Gears more because of online but i also like halos custom games

Gears hands down. Can't beat massive gore and good gameplay.

Both are superb, singleplayer gears has a little edge over halo for me. Multiplayer halo takes a huge lead, i dont care that much about gears multiplayer. Horde was fun though.
