They should have fired Charlie Weis a long time ago, and I'm suprised they didn't. |
Yeah, but they're getting screwed by the FIFA. They always default to seeding whenever a big boy or two stuggles... and ONLY then.
|
How exactly is that going to work? Will higher seeds get to play lower seeds?
|
A team in Pot A will play a team in Pot B. They will play each other twice. The team that wins or wins and then ties, qualifies for the world cup.
If they both tie, or both W&L a tiebreaker will be played on an "even" site. 4 more teams will qualify.
Traditionally there wouldn't be two "Pots" instead it would just be fully random pairings.
However last world cup when Spain was fearing elimination they went with an absolute pairing. Best vs worst etc because they couldn't be without spain in their minds.
People were generally pissed off about that... so they're doing this... mostly because they can't do without Portugal and one of their big draws. People are still generally upset.

I think 2 pots of 4 is fair, but it should be the ones that made it better in the group stage, Ukraine is getting screwed because they scored more points and Portugal is getting very benefitiated. But I guess that a Portugal-France match is not very rentable for the FIFA as one wouldn't make it to the WC....let's hope that neither does so they get double-screwed, hehe

Nothing would please me more. Well ok. LOTS of things would please me more... i'd be incredibly lame if that was my biggest desire. Still that would sure make my day.

This goes for all three of you. Do not derail the thread. You knew when you walked in after reading the OP that this was not about the World Cup or about Football/Soccer at all. At that point you can not talk specifics about the sport. We have a perfectly good Official Football Thread that is on the front page of Off Topic usually, and you're all more than welcome to start your own thread on this topic. The next person that derails this thread with something that isn't about Notre Dame football is getting banned.
@Khuutra-No. Everyone else can learn to read the OP. No one walked into this thread, read it and still thought it was about the World Cup and Ireland. That is when people can join in on the conversation or just leave the thread if the topic doesn't interest them.
Regarding the topic at hand, I really like Clausen a lot. He's got some great NFL potential. Notre Dame is just a few pieces away from really contending, and their 90% or so graduation rate will help keep their non-senior players around and not leave early to go into the draft. I would say Notre Dame is a real threat in two years if they can build and build. I've got to say though, Notre Dame has been playing some exciting football this year. It's much better watching their games than the blowouts you typically get.
