Forums - Sony - Rumour: Sony to sell Cell production facilities?

I ronically Toshiba is the main proponent of HD-DVD, if I was a suspicious person, which I am, I wouldn't put it past Toshiba to put the Kaibosh on cell Processors for the PS3 in order to trip up blu-ray

the cant stop cell production, IBM and Sony would both sue the crap out of them and there is no way Toshiba could survive IBM let alone IBM and Sony. Sony is just making it so that they just buy the cell instead of having to deal with manufacturing costs till IBM rolls out the 45nm fabrication tools. Toshiba wanted to put the cell in TVs anyways so here we go Cell Based TVs soon.

They don't have to stop, the production, just have "unexpected problems" in the production of the cell

These production facilities are for the 65 nm chip that will be phased out by Q3 of 2008 in favour of a 45 nm facility. Really, Sony is just selling something that they have no use for. Toshiba can find another use for the 65 nm fabs.

I was under the impression Cell was currently on a 90nm process and still in the process of moving to 65nm.
