Eh some people say it looks better than the upscaled image of the PS3 for the PS2 games, so they must have done something.

I don't have a BC PS3 to compare but I can tell ya that looks better than GOW1/2 running of my PS2 on my HDTV.

Well, you're wrong. They may not have redrawn the 2D HUD but the graphics are actually rendering in a higher resolution - and if you'll watch one of the linked HD videos you'll see it quire clearly for yourself. So much cleaner than any upscale.
