Forums - Gaming - Are Microsoft Planning new machine?

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/828/828935p1.html

I know this article is discussed on these forums but not with this point of view.

Heres what I think.

If true it's a major slip of the toungue. An announcement in 2009 could mean release in 2011.

This is 6 years after the 360 debut, about right for a consoles lifespan. Culd it be Microsofts next machine?

But the article doesnt say xbox 360, it says Xbox model?
Yes article is couple days old, but not discussed from this point of view. Which makes more sense I think.

First, it is "Is Microsoft planning a new machine" not "are". Are denotes more than one. Back on topic, a built in HD-DVD drive right now would be dumb since we don't know who is going to win the High Def format war. It's probably going to be the XBOX 720 or whatever since Microsoft has probably started work on their next gen system (remember they started work on 360 eighteen months after the first one came out.

Oops:)

Yes I agree, new machine is what I thought. 09 announcement late 11 release?

It only has:

- Built-in HD-DVD drive
- Larger hard-drive
- "Extensive wireless networking capability"
- 1080p playback

I wouldn't call this their "next gen system" because new systems have new things, not just take the old system and strap a few things on to it and call it a new system.

Did you read the rest of the article?

@DMesiterJ

Actually as a company Microsoft can be referred to in the singular (as the company) or in the plural (as the sum of its employees) I think.

Cant be bothered going on topic at the moment but I'll just say that by now MS, Sony and Ninty are all probably planning new consoles.

@Soriku
Remember this is not exactly what may be on there, this may be a short list of what they might want to do with it. also this isn't from microsoft so who knows who this "source" is and if it's truie

@selnor
Yeah I think 2010 or eleven is when it'll probably come out if this is true.

@Soriku
the article mentions these things as well.

The article also claims Toshiba and Microsoft have explored the idea of including a dual HD TV tuner, electronic program guide capability and a newly-standardized mp3 player docking port.

If the article is accurate, the two companies have also kicked around the idea of creating an "open standard chassis system that allows an Xbox to be slotted into a HD TV screen over 40-inch. The open standard bays will allow hard drives to be upgraded and expanded similar to the way that users can upgrade the hard drive on a PC."

Of course Microsoft is planning a new machine. All console makers start planning on their next machine right after their previous one is released. Atleast that is the case with Nintendo.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

I think you unintentionally said something quite funny.
