That's what i was about to say, a Dual Layer DVD handles 8.5 GB, and a single layer Blu-Ray handles 25 GB...

And PS3 handles dual layers (50 GB), and that's not counting that it's only a firmware update from supporting more multi-layer BDs...

Once developers run into the problem of the current size of the BR then you can consider this a concerning issue, but as of now this is just a waste of a thread. Listen if you want a BR player that can also play ps3 games then awesome ps3 is for you. if you just want a BR player, then well go get one.

You don't understand the technology. I suggest you start reading a bit about it from different articles rather than just look at a very poor article that isn't really based on full facts. The Movies will not come out on Bigger than 50GB discs. The reason is simple, it is because people buy those movies to play on TVs. The best TVs currently available will play at best with a quality of 1080p. A Movie at 1080p + All special features fit on less than a 50gb disc. If ever the movie was so bloody long, they'd just put it on 2 blu-ray discs. One disc for the movie and the other with the special features.

The technology this article is referring to does not date from yesterday... not a week ago... nor a month... Not even a year... but from the early release of BR to the market. Even then, there were talks of the possibility of 400GB discs which were already in prototype stages. 

Your logic for not buying a blu-ray player is flawed at its core. I have a friend who doesn't like Blu-ray because he doesn't like the colour blue. That is a valid reason as it is a matter of personal preference. Others dislike the Wii because they do not like nintendo and that is still a valid reason.

But saying, you won't buy a PS3 because movies will stop playing on it in the future is like saying I won't buy a P4 PC in 2000 because in 2009, the i7 core will come out and Empire total war won't play on the P4. It's like saying that you won't buy a CD player in 1995 because the DVD player will come out in 2001. It is like saying that You won't buy you won't buy blu-ray in 2008 because in 2018, bigger capacities BR player will allow us to watch movies on holographic screens and previous players won't read such discs.

Moreover, I feel reading your post that you are either not very intelligent or smart enough to try to disguise you rant/flame towards the PS3. Regardless, the validity of your argument is put in question when you say you might have considered buying a PS3 for a blu-ray player when it's $150. I don't know anyone in their right mind who waited to buy a PS2 for playing DVDs now that the PS2 is $99. You will wait until 2012 to get the PS3 at $150.

Sorry OP if you're still satisfied with DVD and are unconcerned with the fact that PS3 has had more AAA rated exclusive titles this year then Wii has had in its entire lifetime then the PS3 may not be for you.

The OP is being disingenuous by saying that they were thinking of getting a PS3 once it becomes even cheaper still, because they like some of the exclusive games. Yet they are going to never buy one now because it might not be able to play BR movies in future?

I think of one thing we can be absolutely certain: EVERY PS3 game made from now until the end of time will be able to be played on today's PS3. So stop worrying/making excuses already and start saving ur pennies, or get that second job (and now with the price cuts it only needs to be a part time job). Either that or be genuine about your true intentions regarding console ownership for this gen.

BTW movie studios would be almost as stupid to put movies onto >50gig discs. given the capabilities of the current install base (not limited to PS3). Just like the article says VHS tapes developed longer play capability which older VHS machines weren't able to handle, but AFAIK not a single movie was ever released on VHS in long play mode.

If this is the reason someone uses to justify not getting a PS3 then it's pretty clear they never intended to get a PS3 in the first place. Seems odd that people feel the need to justify not buying something like this. Normally you need a reason to justify the spending of money on luxury goods, not the other way round; does this reflect the rampantly consumerist culture we've become?

This got to be a joke topic...Not buying a PS3 because it can't handle 100GB and 200GB blu-ray discs that will probably never hit mainstream...I've heard it all.
