Heavenly Sword /respect

This was when a ton of PS2 games were still lined up for release and i really didnt feel the need to get a Next Gen console...Then one day i was surfing the boards all over the place and stumbled across a discussion about Heavenly Sword and how beautiful it was and watched a few video's of it...Along with the prequel cartoon thinger that was released before the game and my jaw just hit the floor.  HS was (And still is) a breathtaking game in terms of its battle system, story (though short), graphics and of course unparalleled facial expressions.

Virtually everything about the game hit me hard enough to make me instantly want a PS3 if not just for that game.

This is my thank you thread to Heavenly Sword and...

What game got YOU into this gen?

(Not a carbon copy of your first PS3 game thread)

i didnt even know about the new consoles till 2007

Excite Truck

I remember playing at Gamestop this weeks before the Wii released and was just amazed at how amazing it was. I had never played a game like that before and it was just so refreshing after things had become so stale.

Gears of War was the first game that really got me antsy. Before then the PS2 was destroying the 360 in terms of quality content. I still didn't get a 360 until Fall 2007, and when I finally did, Bioshock actually garnered more of my initial attention. So it would be a combo of the two games working in unison.

Regarding the Wii, it was Wii Sports. I got it later in the Fall of 2007.

Regarding the PS3, it was pretty much Metal Gear Solid 4. I didn't know if any of the new IPs were any good because I hadn't played them yet. I picked the PS3 up in January of this year.

MGS4 was another driving factor for me to get a PS3, but i already knew it was going to be amazing two years in advance and didnt have the SURPRIZE IM A SLEEPER HIT!! factor Heavenly Sword did heh.

Well MGS4 ended up dissappointing me big time. Uncharted and Warhawk were very pleasant surprises though, but I didn't know that until after I owned the console.

Loved MGS4 but i admit it was a HUGELY HUGE victim of the Hype factor which brought unrealistic expectations to the table.

Warhawk is another "Whoa" game for me but its issue is most casual players couldnt get into the flow of battle. It was complex at first but once you learned it is one of the best Multi-player experiences this Gen. HOPEFULY Starhawk will fix those complexities for a broader audience.

no game brought me to this gen.. it was the cell. I went to the store with no idea what game to get but I knew I needed the cell in my life. In the end I decided on resistance and tekken dark resurrection on psn

I wasn't worried about the hype. I had played ever MGS leading up to it. I knew what I should have been getting. I didn't feel like I got it. Gameplay was fine, but there were just far too many mistakes in the design of this game regarding the script and the push away from some key MGS components like the use of CODEC and interesting boss characters.

I'll agree with Starhawk. Once that is on the cusp of release, I'll have to get another PS3 for it.

Like the in the first PS3 game thread the game that grabbed me for this gen was Valkyria Chronicles. From what I could see (admittedly with limited exposure to new gen games) this game breathed new life into gaming both visually and in game play (especially visually), and was something I'd not seen in the past for consoles.

All other games I've seen/played so far fall short of Valkyria. Though there is a laundry list of high quality games I want to play that I'm yet to be able to rate relative to Valkyria.
