Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 5 Prologue not truly in 1080p

The original GT5 demo uses the same upscaling trick (as does Ninja Gaiden), but it is kind of hard to tell unless you get really close to a 1080p native display (for the GT demo anyway - it's easy to tell with NG:S).

I'll take no FSAA 1920x1080 over 2x FSAA pseudo-1080p any day (I do that with my PC games all the time, since with my 7800 it's either one or the other with new games)

And watch for Microsoft fanboys to jump all over this as revenge for attacking Halo 3 for this, and watch Sony fanboys pretend this doesn't matter, even though they basically claimed, in those same Halo 3 attacks, that the PS3 would never have to upscale.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I wonder if it'll still be the case when GT5 Prologue is released....

Not that this matters all that much, but that's still more progressive scan pixels than 720p. Also, this isn't the final game so they might pull off something closer to "true" 1080p when the it comes out for real a year from now.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

QFT. I hope that everyone who attacked the Xbox 360 for not having Halo 3 in 1080p comes out and finally admits that the PS3 is not leaps and bounds better than the 360.

As for me, I'll say the same thing as I always said - resolution is just one of the variables which affect graphical quality, so can we please stop with the "OMG1080PFTW".

Besides, most people don't have 1080p capable TVs and 1080p only matters in very big TVs. Either that or if you play with your nose bumped against the screen, which I hope you don't because it's bad for your eyes.

They won't, since the resolution was just an excuse.

And this is just another game that does some upscaling trickery.

Big deal.

Um, if you're using this to show that the 360 is on par with the PS3 then you're just wrong. Halo did not hit true 720p, while GT5 Prologue Demo didn't hit true 1080p. Both games are using some pretty advanced graphical effects like HDR lighting, but GT5 is doing it at a higher resolution. So wouldn't that mean that the PS3 is in fact a step ahead of the 360?

Note: I really don't know which system is more powerful, nor do I care all that much as long as my games look and play beautifully. I'm just saying you're argument comparing Halo to GT5 doesn't work to show that the two systems are on par.

It's not abbout which system is on par. It's about using BS to claim a system is weak.

BTW, Gran Turismo has a higher resolution due to the nature of racing games versus FPS, so it doesn't prove the PS3 is stronger.

Ummm... it is a demo so who knows what res. prologue or 5 will be in. Polyphony does a good job of making a game look as good as it possibly can and I wouldn't care if the res was 100X100 if it can still look that good. the game looks frickin awesome while not upscaled so when the full game comes out and it's in 1080p (you know polyphony won't let us down) it'll even look better than this. That's AWESOME!
