So, Salamanizer, am I to assume I could run it?
Civ4 is an amazing game, seriously. Buy it if you don't have it, people.
I'll have to try the FFH2 mod once I have the time. So far the only mod I've played extensively (and liked) is Rhye's, but I'm sure there's more out there.

yep, I used to run it with my old P4 2.4. I believe you'll only have issues in a late game with more civs than the game support (that means, if you mod the game)

I ran it on a Emachine T5234... which was a 2.1 GHZ with 2GB or ram... and a HORRIBLE machine.
I think it should run fine... I mean the game can actually run on a lot less on it's lowest graphical settings... I ran it on another computer i got way back before i started college... and i've been out of college for years.
It's just the computer turns start getting really drawn out... so if late game the computer turns seem to be a little to long for your liking, just dumb down the graphical settings to free up system resources for the computer. My friend and i would play the hotseat mode and like... just play another game on console between turns. That's how addicting it was though. We'd wait 10-15 minutes between turns late game.<g

I gave in to temptation is it best to install the expansion packs straight away?

At least Warlords. It's the only expansion pack i had before i left it at home... and from what i remember all it basically did was add countries.
I'm installing them all.

No.
No, I can't justify it to myself. I can't spare twenty dollars.
Baaaaahhhhh.

Your a better man then me. I shouldn't be spending 20 dollars either but i couldn't avoid it.
I just love the civ series.
I mean... I must of played Civilization 2 nearly every day for 2-3 years.
I'd love being the isolationist peaceful nation sitting in either England or Japan on the world map... expand to Australia... and just wait for people to mess with me before i would blow them up.

yes, install them all. BTS is a requirement for most, if not all, the mods out there.
oh, I forgot to mention a Romance of the Three Kingdoms mod, I didn't play it but it's supposed to be good and they added a lot of stuff to the game as well. there are also a lot of "complete", "realism", etc. mods, but I'm not really a fan of those. you can find them all at civfanatics.
Rhye's and Fall and FFH2 are the best IMO
since the game was out some modders have been trying to get a LOTR and a Star Wars mod going too, I dunno how it is. there are others that had quite some content too, but I don't know the status: an Alpha Centauri mod, Star Trek mod, Master of Orion mod. there was a cool mod called The Ancient Mediterranean, it was perfectly playable but I don't know if someone updated it to the newest patch.
