Going to Nintendo Powerfest '94 when you're 11 and wearing the T-shirt for 15 years.
Playing roguelike games in 2009.
Cosplaying as a Goomba to play a giant Atari 2600.
Being interviewed by GameDaily on behalf of the Nintendo Defense Force.
Attending lectures on game theory at college and taking multiple pages of notes.
Beating the first level of Super Mario Bros. with your eyes closed.
Posing nude next to your video game collection.

I doubt anybody here fits all these criteria though.

I think if we were putting hardcore gaming on some sort of scale... I'd put that criteria as being pretty much the absolute farthest on the scale.

I am a hardcore gamer because I liked games before Wii Sports :P

I am not hardcore. I refuse to participate in stereotypes and will focus on enjoying gaming.

I've always thought that being truly hardcore came with an inherent understanding that you don't need to prove yourself.

Extensive knowledge of video games and its application to the real world
Playing any type of video game not minding what people say
Liking a specific genre even though you play all of them equally
Extensive dedication to video games
Beating games 100% on harder difficulties
Buying a specific game regardless of how popular it is

This is the true definition of owning.

Noone is trying to prove anything, we are just coming up with some criteria to make some sort of model, as humans do with just about anything in life.

A strong passion for gaming makes a person hardcore.

That's it really. You can like whatever system or genre you want.

Hardcore gamers are wasting good time that could be spend on ninja training or body conditioning.

I am hardcore because I like games of all genres and times (even games with bad graphics lolz!) abd because I don't mind spending money on my hobby, buying old games that i've pirated and finished and don't mind byuing new games without a lot of replay value.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
