Gordon Freeman has sold over 83000 copies on Gamespot, with advertising.
Link sold just over 62000 on the same system, with no advertising.

No advertising?? Link deserves to flop!! The guys at Nintendo will have to learn how to handle games on gamespot.

While it might be acceptable (under the rules) for companies to campaign, if no one else but Steam is doing it, then it is not really a "fair fight." (I don't know if anyone else is doing it ... I cannot imagine Nintendo really caring).

Most people outside of a core group of gamers do not know who Gordon Freeman is. A lot more people know of the heroic exploits of Mario, Master Chief and others.

Finally, remember that Mario has been saving princesses for almost 30 years -- so give him is due.

Yeah, it's all just a popularity contest. The Nameless One shoud've gone close to the top.

JC Denton too wasn't treated very fairly. But it's the Duke's elimination that cries out for revenge!!!   

 

I feel the same for Abe....and probably Lester Chaykin....but he only had like one or two games so I won't fuss

But poor Duke....he did rally valiantly till he encountered the sword master. Devastator versus Master Sword? The master sword only trumps if you are an evil darklord...but what if not??? Devastator owns.

Half Life is an amazing game with epic story/gameplay

However, Gordon is FAR far FARRRR less popular than Mario. Old people,casuals,hardcore players,teens,kids etc...they all know "Mario".
Mario is simply the icon of gaming.

In terms of heroism, Gordon wipes Mario, but would clash with Master Chief/Snake/Cloud/Link and a few more, since they all saved the earth :P
