Forums - General - Old Disney vs New Disny: which is best?

Phil Collins never made really great music, regardless of how good Tarzan was as a stand-alone picture.

I defy you to name me Pixar movies that don't touch on important and intrinsic issues at least so some degree - Hell, the films that Brad Bird directed alone places Pixar on a pedestal right next to Disney classics. I have only ever loved a handful of Disney's animated classics as much as I love The Incredibles and Ratatouille.

Disney was founded in 1923, the 90's Disney is still considered "New Disney".

Nintendo still doomed?

I think he won an oscar for the music in that movie.

I said Pixar movies were good, so I wont argue on that, I just think the Lion King is better than all of the Pixar movies Ive watched(I havent watched that many). Oh, I didnt like the incredibles and I didnt want to watch Ratatouille.

Anyway, Pixar isnt enough to save what disney has become with the amount of crap they have produced.

Actually, while I'm on it? Everything between Little Mermaid and Tarzan is not Classic Disney. That's the Disney Renaissance, which was considered the revitalization of their animation studios. That marks the beginning of the "new" era of Disney, which segued into their branching into computer animation, particularly through the acquisition of Pixar.

If you want "Old Disney" you're talking about everything between Snow White and..... The Great Mouse Detective? Oliver and Company? I'm not sure, I'd have to look it up, but most of the movies listed as "old Disney" here don't qualify.

And I will be frank: I take note that everyone here who belittles, even by reduction, the achievements that Pixar has made in animation, has confessed to not being well-versed in their movies.

That is not a platform by which one can make an argument, especially against the Brad Bird films or UP.

The Disney that made a lot of movies that can be cataloged as the best movies of all time, still being watched today, created characters as Mickey,Goofy and Donald that are awesome even today, revitalized fairy tales like Snow White, Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella and many others or the Disney that created shows for teens that won't be remembered in five years or even less, helped terrible musician like Jonas Brother and Hannah Montana to be famous. It isn't even a question actually.

Pixar is completely different story, though.

..."Classic Disney" also created a lot of shows for teens that weren't remembered five years later, ad happened to help jumpstart the careers of terrible musicians like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

This is not a change.

My top 10 in order of release year:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1937
Pinocchio 1940
Lady and the Tramp 1955
The Sword in the Stone 1963
The Jungle Book* 1967
Robin Hood 1973
The Rescuers 1977
The Black Cauldron 1985
Aladdin 1992
Mulan 1998

So old Disney still wins for me though Pixar only made excellent movies so far (my favourite is still Monsters Inc.) and though Pixar and Studio Ghibli are today's best animation studios.

Pixar saved Disney because ex-Disney worker and huge Disney fan John Lasseter decided to continue the collaboration.

EDIT: To make clear why I just compared Disney to Pixar: In my opinion Pixar IS the new Disney with regards to featured animation movies, I think Disney itself has no real animation studio anymore, but old Disney still wins for me.
