Forums - General - Old Disney vs New Disny: which is best?

Alterego-X, how many Pixar films have you actually seen?

Around the Network

So by Disney, we're speaking of the company's entertainment division as a whole? I saw live action things mentioned in the OP. Does that mean I get to include Miramax and Dimension films? If that's the case, the 1990's were the best time for Disney entertainment ever. Pulp Fiction...brought to you by Disney!

When is the cutoff though between Disney today and old Disney? I don't believe a date was given.

Given that the last thing he mentions is "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" I would guess anything after 1999 is "new Disney".

As much as I love pixar, I'd have to go with old disney.

I really wished they'd make another fully fledged 2D motion picture. With all this 3D animation going on these days, 2D hand drawn would be really refreshing.

The Frog Princess is coming out in Spring.

Have you seen UP? That was one of the saddest childrens movies I have ever seen, what is sadder than death?

No, I haven't seen it, maybe I will.

So ok, maybe I exaggerated a bit, my main problem is not  that I actually hate Pixar so much, but that I really, really, really miss Classic Disney.

Apparently, most people in the thread agreed that the '90s Disney was better, and that's where I'm coming from, too, but while most people look at it as a golden age, like: "Disney was great, Pixar is just fine", I think that quality should be the rule, and not the exception, like: "Every cartoon should be AT LEAST as good as Old Disney, until than, they suck".

Not so. Many of us just hold Pixar as making movies that compare to the best of Classic Disney.

Old Disney wins due to Sleeping Beauty, The Black Cauldron, and Alice in Wonderland.

This. Disney was great until late 90s, the classics like Pinoccio, Cinderella, the jungle book and other great movies like The lion king(maybe the best at least for me) and the beauty and the beast, and even hercules made disney awesome.

Today they live because of pixar, which makes good movies but they pale in comparison to the classics, except for some like toy story(the first one but this one is old so it counts for old disney, and I didnt like the second one) and Wall E.

Today disney is more worried by making their crappy shows like hanna montana and helping awful bands like the jonas brothers, milking them and making shit like camp rock, and their movies consist mostly on on funny things but no deep emtions like before. This comes to show how they went to hell in music too, Elton John and Phil Collins made great music in their movies and now they have Miley Cyrus and the Jbros.

Today Ghibli blows disney with movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited away and Howls moving castle.
