i share mi internet connection with two other housemates, and the thing is, that i can only play on xbox live without lag when neither of them are home, because when they start using the internet my connection it´s a lag fest.

i have a 2 MB/s connection...is this normal? if not, is there any way to fix this?

2mb seems kinda low these days for DSL or Cable..

I run fine with my wife using her Laptop, my Son on his 360 and i'm on my 360/PS3..

I run 6mb DSL

Note: I ran Ethernet to my 360 and PS3, my Son uses WiFi, and all the laptops use WiFi..

It depends what your mates are doing. If they torrent or watch streaming video then they will be using a fair chunk of your bandwidth. Depending on your router you may be able to prioritise XBL traffic to minimise the effects of them being online.

If you prioritize you will basically screw them as long as your playing. You can look up your model router and do some research on how to do it. It shouldn't be that big of a deal if your halfway computer literate.

actually i found out how..but probably won´t do it, i´m not that bad of a person ; )

you can get a 8 MB/s with the main phone company i think, but there are ways to get up to 32MB but i don´t know the details on that.

we don´t have a bigger connection because it is too expensive here, and we have enough expenses as students who live on their own.

8mb is more then enough for three people to enjoy.

It won't be that big of a deal for them if they are just surfing the internet.  But if they were downloading torrents it will be drastic.  I don't think they would mind unless your on live for like 12 hours a day.  If your paying a third of the bill you deserve a third of the time for your own.
