Forums - General - Amazon Kindle 2

Amazon just dropped the price of their Kindle 2 ebook reader.  After reading some reviews, people seem to really like it.  I am debating whether I should pick one up.  What do you guys think?  Is it worth the $260 price tag?

Here is my situation:

Kindle Cons:

I have a bunch of books I wanted to read, but haven't gotten to yet, so I feel like i should read them first.
I could get an XBox 360 instead, but I already am back logged with Wii Games
I don't really read THAT much, though I would like to

Kindle Pros:

It might motivate me to read more, as I would feel guilty about spending the money and not using it.
Cheap books/free
Having a couple thousand books carried with me with just one device is pretty rad.
I am out and about quite a bit, and it would be nice to have the option to read whilst having lunch or whatnot
I have no interest in audiobooks

Thoughts?  Any one out there with one who can give me a first hand account of Kindle ownership.

It's a cool device, but personally I can use a DS or iTouch for the same effect. You're paying a lot to get that paper look on the screen.

Yeah, I do a lot of reading on my iPhone. iPod Touch would be a much more versatile device at a cheaper price, as long as the screen size and properties don't bother you. There are numerous book reader programs you can use, but the best I've tried has been Stanza. Great interface, good customization options, and it ties into about a dozen different online book stores full of free or paid content.

I've never seen a Kindle in the flesh, so I'm afraid I can't comment on the merits or flaws of the device.

My thought really.  Hey a lot of people HATE multifunction though.

im thinking about getting one or at least something that can let me read books like that, I wanna do some more reading (especially next year when hopefully ill be going to Uni) and I like the idea of doing it electronically like that (seems cool like in Star Trek!)
