That's a pretty cool way to find out if there is water there without having to go there. Actually saves money.

with a shuttle launch costing 500 million, this seems like a very cheep way to do things... for NASA anyway.

My thoughts exacly. Did they think through the possible consequences? And how long have they had to plan this? The earth's fate is in the hands of engineers.

...or I'm mistaken and the moon's WAAAAAAY bigger then I thought. ;)

The moon does have its own gravitational pull... The force will be no where near big enough to make a rock shoot of at a velocity fast enough to overcome the moons gravitational pull.

Won't someone please think of the moon?

I mean, what has the moon ever done to us? It gives us a cool view, werewolves, eclipses, and even takes credit for tide flow. It does all this and we just want to hit it with stuff.

We're mean people. =(
